Where are the philosophers? Where are the historians at the table? Where are the mental health experts? Where are the social scientists?&#8217; These\u2063 voices are just as important for managing a pandemic,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt \u200bwas singularly one-dimensional, anti-human,\u201d\u200d she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Ignoring the Bigger Picture<\/h2>\n<p>According\u2062 to health writer Gabrielle Bauer, \u200cthe response to the pandemic was far too\u2062 narrow-minded. In an interview for EpochTV\u2019s &#8220;American\u2062 Thought \u2064Leaders,&#8221; she argued that\u200d policy makers failed to \u2062consider the broader implications of lockdowns and COVID measures. Mental health, financial struggles, and cultural issues were all\u2063 pushed aside in favor of a one-size-fits-all approach. Bauer questioned the absence of economists, philosophers, historians, mental health\u200b experts, and social scientists at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-treasury-advisory-committee-on-racial-equity-to-be-led-by-defund-the-police-advocate-former-philadelphia-mayor\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s \u2018Treasury Advisory Committee On Racial Equity\u2019 To Be Led By \u2018Defund The Police\u2019 Advocate, Former Philadelphia Mayor\">decision-making table<\/a>, emphasizing the importance of their perspectives in managing\u2062 a crisis of this magnitude. I know this became\u200b heresy to say this \u200cduring the pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomehow there is this strange new narrative that took hold, that children didn\u2019t have\u2063 a special importance,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI \u2062still consider my kids\u2019 lives and other kids\u2019 lives more important than my\u2062 own. I\u2019ve had lots of fun, I\u2019ve had the opportunity to do most of \u200cwhat I have wanted in life.\u2064 The young people have \u2062not.\u200c They deserve it. That\u2019s just one of my values,\u201d Ms. Bauer said.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2064 felt very troubled that during the\u2064 pandemic\u200b no one was talking about the children. She said her son was a college\u2062 student at the time and was living in a basement apartment with no opportunity to \u2062go out, to socialize, or have other activities, so she was worried about his mental health.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\" style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>A student wears a mask\u200b as he does his work at\u2063 Freedom \u200bPreparatory Academy in Provo,\u200b Utah, on Feb. 10, 2021. \u200b(George Frey\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>When she talked about this online, an online stranger told her to stop talking about it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe said, like, nobody\u2062 cares. The only thing \u2064that matters is we all have to stay \u200bhome.\u200b And I profoundly disagreed with that. I thought we have to put children first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Regarding children and vaccinations, Ms. Bauer found it very distasteful that children were used\u200d as shields to protect adults, as that was the narrative at \u200cthe time, that children \u200dare not\u2063 at risk of\u2062 dying, \u2062but\u200d they might carry the virus and pass it \u2064to adults.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>\u201cMy whole being recoiled against that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<h2>Putting a Value on a Life<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<p>There\u2062 was \u200ban idea during the pandemic\u2063 that you \u200ccannot\u2064 put a value on\u2062 a \u2064life, but it\u200b seemed to Ms. Bauer that there\u2063 was \u200din fact a value put on human life, and that value was\u2062 not as high as \u2062one would expect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPublic health is a balance. And you have to think about striking the most human and \u2062humane balance,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-many-aspects-of-a-pandemic-and-the-one-dimensional-official-response-gabrielle-bauer-part-2\/\" title=\"Pandemic's Many Aspects vs. One-Dimensional Official Response: Gabrielle Bauer - Part 2\">simple cost-benefit analysis<\/a>\u200b in such cases only involves the life-years and the health condition, for example the\u2062 mobility of a person, but does not address \u2064the \u200bwell-being\u2062 of that person, Ms. Bauer said.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, well-being economics include the well-being\u200d of a person and not\u200b just economic and health \u2062parameters, so the ability to attend a marriage, to attend a graduation, to go on a trip,\u200b \u201call these\u2063 constitute the experience of living,\u200b and they \u200chave to be factored in \u200cas well,\u201d Ms. Bauer said.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden, \u200cfor example, did \u2064a lot better in\u200d preserving well-being than\u2063 countries with \u2064much stricter\u2063 lockdowns, according to Ms. Bauer.<\/p>\n<p>Many COVID measures were\u200d meaningless \u200band were imposed just \u200dfor \u200cshowing that something was being done, rather than for being effective,\u200c she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is so much performative policy-making going on. Think about masking toddlers. What toddler on the face\u200d of the earth is going to keep a mask on in a way that fits the face?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Bauer said that European countries \u200cwere more sensible about children and schools compared to America, as they opened the schools much sooner and they did not do worse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is very puzzling that America didn\u2019t\u2062 see what was going on there and adjust the\u2062 policies accordingly,\u201d Ms. Bauer said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s maybe this intense polarization that has \u2064taken hold of America, that made people dig\u200d in their heels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As an example, she said that a\u200c mother in the United States took her son,\u2063 who was \u201cexposed to COVID\u201d to a hospital, but \u2062the son was\u2063 in the \u200ctrunk of the car. \u201cWhat mother does that to her\u200d son?\u201d Ms. Bauer asked.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>\u201cAnd there\u2019s even sadder stories. \u200cThere\u2019s\u200c a young man or teenager who died of meningitis because the hospital did not want to admit him, because he \u200chad been exposed to \u200cCOVID. Just horrible, horrible stuff. It broke my heart and made me furious.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Collective \u200cPsychosis<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<p>People going mad during the pandemic could be attributed to a collective \u200bpsychosis, Ms. Bauer said, quoting Carl Jung, the psychologist, who said that \u201cthere is\u200b no virus \u200cmore dangerous than the mind virus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Bauer mentioned historic \u2062examples\u200c of collective psychosis, including the Salem witch trials and the spread of laughing and fainting spells \u2063without a physical cause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, collective\u2063 psychosis gets hold of people, and that herd mentality, which is baked into\u200c our DNA, kicks in. And I think it was all \u2064abetted by social media.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Social media amplified these human traits like wildfire and \u201cwe got\u2062 this collective madness,\u201d according to\u2063 Ms. Bauer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe media abdicated\u200d their traditional role, which\u2064 is to push back against government excess, certainly to interrogate it. The media just became complicit. And that superseded all \u200btheir \u2063other obligations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Ms. Bauer, the end \u200bdoesn\u2019t justify \u200bthe means, so in\u200b order to\u200d save lives, the \u200cgovernment cannot overstep every possible freedom of its citizens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you \u200bthink that your\u200b goal is \u2062so important, find other ways. And if the measures are going to help, ultimately telling the truth is going to \u200bhave a better result.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The measures \u2062were tied to a culture of \u201csafetyism\u201d which is how the society has evolved, according to Ms. Bauer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSafetyism\u201d\u200d is\u2064 the presumption that safety is the highest value, and not just the \u200dhighest\u2063 value \u200cbut \u201corders of magnitude above anything else and should supersede\u2063 all other considerations\u201d\u200c Ms.\u200b Bauer said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>\u201cWhen the people \u2063are willing to \u200dgive up the freedoms that make life interesting, then there is an imbalance, and I\u2063 think a lot of us felt that. (Geoff Robins\/The Canadian Press)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>She said that depending on these different \u201cmoral tastebuds\u201d that people have, people may react differently to\u2064 the policies, and this was the reason for different visceral reactions, for people reacting\u200c instinctively to\u2064 the COVID\u200b policies in different ways.<\/p>\n<p>It is hard to find where we acquired these different moral foundations,\u2062 Ms. \u2064Bauer said, \u200dand \u2062she believes they have deep and early\u2063 roots in people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n<p>There are people\u200d who care most about being \u2062perceived as caring, so during the lockdowns, they did not want to raise objections.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Bauer said she is very grateful \u200bto\u200b all the great minds \u2064featured in her book \u200band that she found a silver lining to all this, because she met \u2064so many \u201camazing people\u201d that she \u2064would not have met under \u200ddifferent\u2064 circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut\u200b we need to keep talking about it so it doesn\u2019t \u2064happen again,&#8221; she said. \u2064&#8221;That\u2019s really \u200bthe purpose of all these essays and books and podcasts and discussions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> Why does the\u2063 speaker believe \u2062that the closure of\u200d schools during the COVID measures has had a negative impact on children?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Elling us that we have to\u200b sacrifice our children on the altar of COVID protection. And that is completely upside-down. It\u2062 is obscene,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n<p>She emphasized that\u2064 children have suffered tremendously during\u200c the lockdowns and COVID measures.\u2064 The closure of schools has had a profound negative impact on their mental health, social development, and educational progress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChildren need to\u2063 be in school. They need to be\u200d with their peers. They need to be\u200b in classrooms, learning. And the\u200d failure to prioritize their well-being is a failure of epic proportions,\u201d \u200cshe asserted.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Bauer also criticized the\u2063 prevailing\u200d fear-driven narrative \u200bthat has fueled the\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/listen-elon-musk-presses-robinhood-ceo-about-gamestop-fiasco-restricted-trading\/\" title=\"LISTEN: Elon Musk Presses Robinhood CEO About GameStop Fiasco, Restricted Trading\">decision-making process<\/a>.
