Remember when they did everything they could to bury the Hunter Biden laptop story?&#8221; he said. &#8220;That\u2019s exactly what happened \u2064yesterday when the White House Counsel\u2019s Office delivered a\u2064 message to news \u2064organizations demanding the\u2064 media &#8216;ramp up its scrutiny of House Republicans.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The takeaway was clear: do Biden\u2019s bidding,\u200c or\u200d else. \u200dAs \u2062George Washington University Law Professor \u200cJonathan Turley \u2064noted, &#8216;<strong>The letter removes \u2063any pretense of separation between the Biden personal legal \u2064team and the\u200b White House \u2064Counsel\u2019s office.&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\">\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>President\u2062 Joe Biden and his son Hunter \u200bBiden attend the annual Easter Egg\u2063 Roll on \u200dthe South Lawn of the White House in \u200cWashington on April 10, 2023. (Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Lawmakers \u2062Uncover &#8216;Culture of Corruption&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>&#8220;Just think, if the Biden administration is that eager to order independent media organizations\u200d to paper over the facts,\u2063 how much easier \u2062would\u2064 it have been for them to signal to the Department\u2062 of\u2062 Justice how\u2063 to\u200b handle Hunter Biden\u2019s case?&#8221;\u200b Mr. McCarthy said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>House Republicans opened their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-launches-formal-impeachment-probe-into-president-joe-bidens-corrupt-family-influence-peddling-business\/\" title=\"House initiates impeachment inquiry into President Biden's corrupt family business.\">formal impeachment \u200dinquiry<\/a> into President Joe\u2064 Biden after allegedly \u2063uncovering what Mr. McCarthy said \u2062are\u2062 &#8220;<strong>serious and\u2062 credible allegations<\/strong>&#8221; into\u2063 his conduct, which amount to a &#8220;<strong>culture of corruption<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The formal inquiry \u200ccame after Congress said \u2064it obtained records related to the Biden family&#8217;s business dealings, including\u2063 documents regarding over \u200b$20 million in payments from foreign entities that were allegedly directed to the president&#8217;s relatives, including his son Hunter Biden \u200cand their business partners, while President Biden served as vice president of \u200cthe United States.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, individuals from Romania,\u200d China, Russia, and Ukraine were among those making payments\u200b to \u2062the Biden family and their associates, according to the documents.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Lawmakers are\u2062 also probing\u200d allegations \u200bthat President Biden got the Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/eu-memo-appears-at-odds-with-bidens-claims-about-fired-ukraine-prosecutor-5488220\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fired because he was investigating<\/a> the activities\u2062 of Ukrainian natural gas firm \u2064Burisma \u2062Holdings\u2014on whose board Hunter Biden sat\u2014at the time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>President Biden has insisted there was an &#8220;absolute wall&#8221; between his family\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-investigate-government-contracts-and-loans-awarded-to-biden-donors\/\" title=\"House Republicans Investigate Government Contracts and Loans Awarded to Biden Donors\">foreign business schemes<\/a> and his duties as \u2063vice president and\u200c that \u200dhe never \u200ddiscussed business with\u200c his son.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\">\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Rep. (Andrew Harnik\/AP Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Impeachment &#8216;Grave, Rare, and \u200bHistoric&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>In its\u2063 memo to media outlets, the White House claimed that House Republicans,\u2064 after \u200dnearly nine months of investigating the claims, &#8220;<strong>haven\u2019t been able to turn up any \u2063evidence of\u200d the President \u200cdoing anything wrong.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>The memo\u2064 went on \u2064to warn that impeachment is &#8220;<strong>grave, rare, and \u2064historic<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For years, Republicans \u200bin\u2063 Congress have tried to muddy the waters by attracting media coverage of\u200d their allegations, and as they choose to move \u200bforward with impeachment, it is the responsibility of the\u2062 independent press to treat their claims \u2064with the appropriate \u2064scrutiny,&#8221; the memo stated. &#8220;Covering \u2064impeachment as a process story \u2014 Republicans say \u200bX, but the White House says Y \u2014 is a disservice\u200b to the American\u200c public \u200cwho relies on the independent press to hold those in \u200cpower accountable,&#8221; it continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd in the modern media environment,\u2063 where everyday liars and hucksters peddle disinformation and lies \u2063everywhere from Facebook to Fox, process stories that\u2064 fail to unpack the illegitimacy of\u2063 the\u2063 claims on which House Republicans are basing all their actions only serve to \u200cgenerate confusion, \u2062put false premises in \u200dpeople\u2019s feeds, and obscure the truth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The memo concluded that House Republicans should be &#8220;<strong>held \u200daccountable<\/strong>&#8221; for\u200c &#8220;lurching toward impeachment \u2064over allegations\u2064 that are not \u200bonly unfounded but, in virtually all cases, have been\u200c actively disproven, including by witnesses and documents in their own investigation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Along with criticism from Mr. McCarthy, the White House memo faced backlash from Rep. Ashley \u200bHinson (R-Iowa), who called it &#8220;<strong>outrageous<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Republicans will follow the facts wherever they will lead. And the media should report the facts without bias,&#8221; she wrote on X, formerly known as\u2064 Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, Rep. The memo urged media outlets to increase their \u200cscrutiny of GOP lawmakers in order to combat these falsehoods.
