The appeal was heard\u2064 this week in the Virginia Court of Appeals.<\/p>\n<p>The controversial policy, enacted by the school\u200d board in \u200b2019, requires schools to incorporate ideas inspired by Critical Race \u200dTheory into the curriculum. One activity involved students raising their hands to identify their &#8220;privilege&#8221; in \u200bfront of their peers. \u2062Another activity required\u200c students to write down characteristics of the &#8220;oppressor&#8221;\u200d and &#8220;oppressed&#8221; classes.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit also cited an eighth-grade pilot program\u2062 that taught students that the &#8220;dominant culture&#8221; in the U.S. consists of white, middle-class,\u2063 Christian,\u2064 and\u200c cisgender individuals, while the &#8220;subordinate culture&#8221; includes \u200bpeople of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those from different \u200breligious \u200cbackgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson explained that the term &#8220;anti-racist&#8221; is \u200bessentially \u200ca code for adopting Critical Race\u200b Theory-based policies\u2064 that view everything through the lens of race.
