The term &#8220;red \u200dpill&#8221;\u200c comes from the\u200c movie &#8220;The Matrix,&#8221;\u2064 where Morpheus offers Neo the choice to take the red pill and see\u2063 the truth behind\u200d the illusion. \u200dIt&#8217;s about realizing that the reality we&#8217;ve been fed is not the whole truth. For me, taking the red pill was a \u200dprofoundly hopeful\u2062 and optimistic experience. It meant breaking free from \u2064the lies I had \u2062been told throughout my life as a black person and discovering a new path.<\/p>\n<p>Every day, I woke up with a \u2063sense of hope and excitement, sharing my \u2063newfound perspective for four years. \u2064During that time, I met my husband, a British citizen who shared my optimism. He believed that the United Kingdom had a chance\u2064 to become a land \u200bof opportunity like America. When we got married, there was \u2064no question\u200b that we\u200d would start\u2063 our family in the United States. It was fascinating to see\u2063 America through his eyes, as a foreigner who \u200csaw it as the land \u2063of opportunity. Our conversations at home have taken a different tone, filled with a \u2064sense of fear rather than \u2063hope and optimism. We discuss the possibility of moving \u2063to an isolated place, where we \u200bcan be self-sustaining and secure. We \u2063contemplate homeschooling our children or sending them abroad for their education. We even consider alternative countries like\u200c Switzerland or Africa \u200das potential future homes.<\/p>\n<p>Why \u2062do we ask \u200cthese questions? Because\u2062 we no longer \u2063feel\u200d secure about the \u200bfuture, \u200dnot \u200deven in the next five years. This is what it means to be &#8220;black pilled&#8221;: witnessing America&#8217;s transformation into a dystopian nightmare. We see our \u2063intelligence \u200bagencies acting as terrorists, both abroad and now\u200d within our own borders. The \u2064same tricks they used to manipulate other countries are now being used against us, with the FBI even \u200dleading the January 6 insurrection. And when a hate crime against Christians occurred in our own city, the government defended the perpetrator instead of standing up for the victims.<\/p>\n<p>This is the reality \u200bwe are living in today. We don&#8217;t need any \u200bmore examples to understand the \u200bdire situation. It&#8217;s the black pill, \u200baccepting\u200b a harsh truth: America\u2063 is spiraling\u200d into decline. At some point, I had to admit \u2063to myself\u2064 that\u200d I&#8217;ve become\u2064 cynical about the future of this country. However, I still hold\u200b onto a glimmer of hope, albeit not as strong \u2064as before.<\/p>\n<p>So, how can we regain hope and\u2063 optimism? We must\u200b find the courage to speak up and take action. Simply\u200c consuming \u200dcontent or silently agreeing with others is no longer\u200c enough.
