professor \u200dis speaking out after witnessing the gradual racialization of higher\u2062 education institutions that accelerated in the last two years, leading\u2064 to the suppression of diverse viewpoints and spreading \u200dof\u2062 bias on campuses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn many ways, I&#8217;ve been\u200c an eyewitness \u2063to what \u200bwe now \u2063call the critical race phenomenon or \u200dthe racialization of education, capture of institutions, going \u2063back to my days\u200b at Harvard Law School in the early 1980s,\u201d said William Jacobson, a law\u2062 professor at Cornell University.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">Frustrated with the media bias\u2062 during\u2064 the 2008 \u2063presidential\u200c election \u200dfavoring\u200b then-presidential candidate Barack Obama, Mr. \u2063Jacobson decided to speak out by launching a\u2063 solo blog called <a href=\"https:\/\/legalinsurrection.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Legal Insurrection<\/a>, \u200da year after Cornell hired \u200dhim.<\/div>\n<div class=\"shortcode\">\n<div class=\"border-comp-divider mb-4 mr-4 w-full max-w-[500px] border px-5 py-4 text-[16px] leading-[20px] text-[#262626] md:float-left\" class=\"my-5\">The \u2064first few posts on the website \u2062were about \u201cthe racialization of the campaign and how race was being used as a weapon to silence \u2063people,\u201d Mr. Jacobson told EpochTV\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/epochtv\/reign-of-terror-on-campuses-post-george-floyd-and-the-threat-of-ai-internalized-bias-cornell-law-professor-bill-jacobson-5482870\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Thought Leaders<\/a>\u201d program \u2063in a\u2063 recent interview.<\/div>\n<p>Silencing people is\u2062 not achieved through \u200bthrowing them in prison but through the false accusation of being a racist, which is extremely damaging because it can cost \u200cpeople their jobs,\u200d their\u200d education, and their personal relationships, \u200cMr. Jacobson explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince I started the website, for \u2064almost a decade, there was a constant \u200bstream of attempts to \u200cget me fired, mostly \u200bfrom off the\u2062 campus,&#8221; said Mr. Jacobson, who is the only openly conservative member of Cornell\u2019s 1,700-member faculty.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">Mr. Jacobson said\u200d that when he \u2062spoke out on his website \u200dagainst the rioting and \u2063the looting after George Floyd\u2019s \u2062death, there were organized <a href=\"https:\/\/legalinsurrection.com\/2020\/06\/theres-an-effort-to-get-me-fired-at-cornell-for-criticizing-the-black-lives-matter-movement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">efforts to get \u200dhim fired<\/a>, but none of them were successful.<\/div>\n<p>At that time, 21 of his Cornell\u2064 colleagues signed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/racialization-of-education-stifles-free-speech-on-college-campuses-cornell-professor\/\" title=\"Cornell Professor: 'Racialization' hampers free speech in colleges.\">letter denouncing unnamed \u201ccommentators \u2026 attached<\/a> to Ivy League Institutions,\u201d who were critical\u200b of Black Lives Matter, and demanding &#8220;accountability.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dean Eduardo Pe\u00f1alver also denounced\u2063 Mr. Jacobson in a statement, saying that his\u2063 blog posts cast &#8220;broad and categorical aspersions on the goals of those protesting for justice\u200b for Black Americans&#8221; and that they &#8220;do not reflect the\u200c values of Cornell Law School.\u201d \u200cThe dean also\u2064 said that Mr.\u200b Jacobson\u2019s posts were \u201cboth offensive and poorly reasoned\u201d without providing \u2062any details.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">The National Association of Scholars sent an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nas.org\/blogs\/article\/an-open-letter-to-eduardo-m-penalver-dean-of-cornell-law-school#_ftn1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open letter<\/a> \u200bto Mr. Pe\u00f1alver objecting\u200c to his characterization of Mr.\u2062 Jacobson.<\/div>\n<p>Mr. Jacobson said that these attempts to silence him taught people the lesson of not speaking out.<\/p>\n<p>Only a few professors have been fired for expressing their\u200b views in\u2064 the \u2062last year, \u201cbut\u2062 for each one who \u2064gets fired, it tells the whole campus not \u2062to speak out, and it spreads even further,\u201d \u2064Mr. Jacobson said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\u201cThe one diversity that you will never hear implemented \u200don campuses is diversity of\u2063 viewpoint.\u201d<\/div>\n<h2>Racialization of Education<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cThe racialization of education, medicine, other fields now, essentially, is pitting \u2063people against each other based on race,\u201d Mr. Jacobson said.<\/p>\n<p>It is teaching\u2064 students \u200cto view fellow students and teachers based \u2064on the color of their skin, he pointed out. \u201cIt&#8217;s \u2063setting up racial conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The theoretical basis of racialization is\u2062 critical race theory, \u200cwhich evolved from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/7-lying-media-outlets-claiming-crt-isnt-being-taught-in-public-schools\/\" title=\"7 Lying Media Outlets Claiming CRT Isn\u2019t Being Taught in Public Schools\">critical legal studies<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cornell-professor-invents-critical-race-theory-watchdog-site\/\" title=\"Cornell Professor Invents Critical Race Theory Watchdog Site\">critical legal theory<\/a> studied\u200c in \u200dthe early 1980s, Mr. Jacobson said, adding that Harvard Law School, \u2063his \u200calma mater,\u200b was an epicenter\u200b of that.<\/p>\n<p>During its formative years, critical race\u2063 theory adopted a classic Marxist approach to everything, including the Marxist\u2064 principle of class struggle, but\u200d substituted race \u200cfor class, Mr. Jacobson explained.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">The concept of \u2063class struggle\u2064 has never really gained traction in the United\u200d States, Mr.\u200c Jacobson \u200dcontinued. This was \u201cbecause in\u200d the U.S., unlike some countries, people \u2064can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/chapter-nine-the-communist-economic-trap-part-ii_2605465.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">move between\u2062 classes<\/a>,\u201d he\u2063 added.<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIf you look\u2064 at all our\u200d billionaires, very few of them were born wealthy\u2014they&#8217;ve created things.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Critical \u200crace \u2063theory is based on\u200b never-ending racial struggle\u2064 and claims that society is systemically racist and that racism is \u200bnot necessarily conscious in people, Mr. Jacobson explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTherefore, the dead white male authors are inherently racist,\u200d that they grew out of a racist system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was\u2063 in \u2063many ways a revolt\u2064 against the country consistent with \u2062 [the goals] of critical race theory and critical legal theory, which is \u2064tearing down society,\u201d also called \u201cwholesale deconstruction of society,\u201d Mr. Jacobson said.<\/p>\n<p>Critical \u200brace \u2063theory has developed over time and become embedded in the\u200c systems, but only after\u2063 the death of George \u200cFloyd did it start being pushed on society, Mr. Jacobson\u200b said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s almost like there were plans on the shelf to take over everything. And that was the excuse they needed to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Universities declared themselves anti-racist campuses, \u2064but by \u2062being anti-racist,\u2062 they\u2063 meant to \u200b\u201cdiscriminate currently, in order to cure past discrimination,\u201d Mr. Jacobson said. \u201cIt actually \u200cmeans being racist.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\u201cIt&#8217;s a\u2062 massive undertaking. \u200dbut \u200bit is a mania that I think\u2064 is subsiding\u2063 a little,&#8221; Mr. Jacobson said. \u201cThat doesn&#8217;t mean it&#8217;s going to go\u2062 away, but\u200d the intensity of 2020 and 2021 could not be sustained.\u201d<\/div>\n<h2>Diversity, Equity, Inclusion<\/h2>\n<div class=\"post-figure\" style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Florida Gov.\u200c Ron DeSantis holds up three just<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/desantis-touts-florida-blueprint-tells-christian-broadcasters-i-have-only-begun-to-fight\/\" title=\"DeSantis promotes 'Florida Blueprint,' vows to keep fighting - tells Christian broadcasters.\">-signed bills related<\/a> to higher education in the state\u2014including \u2064one\u200d that bans \u200ddiversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices\u2014at New College in Sarasota,\u200b Fla., on May 15, 2023.\u200d (Courtesy of the Florida Governor&#8217;s Office)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>There are a\u2063 lot of universities that require \u2064the submission of a \u200bDEI statement as \u2063a condition for\u2062 hiring, Mr. Jacobson said.<\/p>\n<p>DEI, \u200cstanding for diversity, \u200dequity, and inclusion, is really an agenda of critical race theory, which means that people are not\u2062 treated as individuals but as group \u2062members,\u2062 or proxies for group members, Mr. Jacobson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese DEI statements not only require you to recite that you agree with this. They also want you to show how you have\u200c tailored your \u2062career to advance it,&#8221; Mr. Jacobson\u200c said. \u201cIt&#8217;s very insidious.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Jacobson \u2062discussed the challenges he would face \u200cif he were applying for faculty\u2063 positions now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2063 could never be\u2063 hired at Cornell\u200d for many reasons,\u200c one of which is political, but also, I would refuse to sign a DEI statement,&#8221;\u200c he said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">Cornell University \u2063has now changed the DEI statement requirement from mandatory to \u2064voluntary, but Mr. \u200bJacobson believes that to get hired, a person \u2062needs to \u201cbow down\u200d to the DEI ideology.\u201d<\/div>\n<h2>Forced to Lie and Pretend<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Jacobson admitted that\u200d pushing the DEI ideology on \u200bcampuses forces people to \u2064lie and to pretend they are something they are \u2063not. \u200b\u201cThey have to keep\u2062 their \u2062own thoughts\u2064 to themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He recollected his experience of studying Russian in the Soviet Union in college, which\u2064 made \u200chim \u201caware\u2064 of what it&#8217;s\u2063 like to\u2062 live in a society where you have to\u200b pretend to be something you&#8217;re not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can express your private thoughts,\u200b but you\u2064 have to be very careful\u200b who you\u200c express them to, who is really trustworthy, and who was going to turn you in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s a\u200d terrible society to live, and that&#8217;s what academia \u200cis\u2064 becoming, in many ways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A lot of students confide in him that \u2062they feel compelled to\u2062 comply with the ideology while\u200b in class and that&#8217;s it&#8217;s becoming too difficult to continue.<\/p>\n<p>Their professors didn&#8217;t \u2064threatem, but the students worried that if they disagreed on some of \u2064these \u201dracial or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ben-shapiro-breaks-down-the-real-impact-of-israels-judicial-reforms\/\" title=\"Ben Shapiro Breaks Down The Real Impact Of Israel\u2019s Judicial Reforms\">hot topic issues<\/a>,\u201d it may\u2064 affect their grades, people may smear them on the internet, or it might be hard for them to find a job, Mr. \u200bJacobson explained.<\/p>\n<p>The same concerns\u2063 and fears exist among professors, but the faculty is less diverse in terms of viewpoint than<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A law professor has voiced concerns about the increasing racialization of higher education institutions, which has intensified over the past two years.
