The announcement of the settlement was \u2062made by the family&#8217;s lawyers on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The incident took place in September 2019 when \u2064one of\u2062 the assailants sucker-punched\u2063 Diego from behind, causing him \u2064to fall\u2064 and hit his head against\u2063 a pillar. \u200cThe attack was captured on \u200cvideo, and despite Diego&#8217;s brave fight, he\u2062 succumbed to a brain injury nine days later. He\u2064 stated, &#8220;Schools need to realize \u200cthat bullying \u2062can never be tolerated and that any complaints of bullying and assault must be taken seriously.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The district spokesperson, Anahi Velasco, \u2062declined to comment on the settlement. However, the district had previously made changes\u2063 to its bullying reporting system and provided additional \u2062training for employees.
