and not his role as White House \u2063chief of staff.<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;The evidence before the Court overwhelmingly suggests that Meadows was not\u200b acting in his scope of executive branch \u200dduties \u200bduring most of \u200cthe Overt \u200bActs alleged,&#8221; the judge wrote.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">&#8220;Even if Meadows took on tasks that mirror the \u200dduties \u200cthat \u200che carried out when acting in his official role as White \u200dHouse Chief of Staff (such as attending meetings, \u2064scheduling phone calls, and managing the President\u2019s time) he has failed to demonstrate how\u200c the election-related \u2063activities that serve as \u200dthe basis for the charges in the Indictment are related to any of\u2063 his official acts,&#8221; the judge added.<\/div>\n<h2>Another Request Denied<\/h2>\n<div class=\"my-5\">On Wednesday, Judge Jones also denied the stay request\u200c from\u200b Mr. \u2063Meadows asking the court to temporarily stop the order remanding the racketeering prosecution to \u200cstate court, arguing in his ruling (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/67694389\/80\/the-state-of-georgia-v-meadows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) that the former White \u2064House official had\u2062 &#8220;failed to show a stay should be granted.&#8221;<\/div>\n<p>A\u2062 total of 19 people, including former \u2062President Donald Trump, were indicted on Aug. 14 by a grand jury in Fulton County, Georgia, over their \u200befforts to dispute the results of the 2020 election\u2063 in the state.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">The indictment (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fultonclerk.org\/DocumentCenter\/View\/2077\/CRIMINAL-INDICTMENT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>), brought by Ms. Willis, charges all of the individuals with at\u2063 least one count of vio<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An appeals court will hear oral arguments on an emergency motion filed by Mark Meadows, ex-White House chief of staff, regarding charges in the Georgia election-racketeering case.
