A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/many-household-cleaning-products-including-green-items-emit-hazardous-chemicals-linked-to-cancer-study\/\" title=\"Study finds cancer-linked chemicals emitted by household cleaning products, including 'green' ones.\">recent peer-reviewed study titled<\/a> &#8220;Volatile organic compounds emitted \u2062by conventional and &#8216;green&#8217; \u200dcleaning products in the U.S. market&#8221; \u200crevealed some shocking findings.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>As part\u2064 of their study, researchers\u2063 from \u2064the non-profit \u200cEnvironmental Working\u200b Group\u200c (EWG) analyzed 28 cleaning products \u2063and two air fresheners\u200c for hazardous human-made chemicals known as\u200d volatile organic\u200c compounds\u200b (VOCs). They \u200bchecked the air\u2064 quality impacts of \u200cthe \u2064products and measured the number, concentrations, and emission factors of\u2062 VOCs.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote><\/div>\n<p>The cleaning products used \u2064in the study consisted of various cleaners, including all-purpose, \u200dcarpet, floor, glass, and wood cleaners, as well as laundry stain removers. The researchers purchased\u200b these items from online retailers between\u200b December 2019 and May 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Out of the 30\u2064 products analyzed, 14 were standard conventional household cleaning products, while nine were fragranced &#8220;green&#8221; items. Another seven were fragrance-free cleaning products marketed as \u200b&#8221;green.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Exposure to cleaning \u200dproducts has been associated with harm to the\u200b respiratory system, neurotoxicity, harm to the reproductive\u200b system, \u2064and elevated risk\u2064 of cancer, with greatest adverse impacts for workers exposed in an\u200c occupational\u2063 setting,&#8221; researchers wrote.<\/p>\n<h2>Health Effects of VOCs<\/h2>\n<p>Overall, researchers detected 530 unique VOCs \u200din all 30 of the products, including eco-friendly &#8220;green&#8221; products with and without fragrances, they said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote><\/div>\n<p>Of\u2062 these 530 \u2064VOCs, 193 were considered \u200chealth \u200dhazards based\u200c on either\u200c California&#8217;s Department of\u2062 Toxic Substances Control Candidate\u200b Chemicals List or the European Chemical Agency&#8217;s Classification and Labeling Inventory.<\/p>\n<p>VOCs are commonly found in everyday household cleaning products and can have short-\u200c and long-term adverse \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/how-an-influential-medical-journal-laundered-progressivism-as-public-health\/\" title=\"How an Influential Medical Journal Laundered Progressivism as \u2018Public Health\u2019\">health effects<\/a>. They can cause \u2062headaches, loss of coordination, nausea, and even\u2064 damage to the liver, kidneys, and central \u200bnervous\u2062 system. Some \u200bVOCs\u200c are also known to cause\u200d cancer in humans.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<blockquote>\n<p>According to \u200dtheir\u2062 study,\u2064 researchers with EWG found \u2063that &#8220;green&#8221; products still emitted VOCs but \u2062at a lower level than their non-green\u2064 counterparts.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Wake-up Call for Consumers&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>&#8220;Greater total concentration, \u2064total emission factors, \u2064and numbers of VOCs \u200cwere generally observed in conventional cleaning products \u2064compared to \u2063products identified as\u2062 &#8216;green&#8217;, particularly compared to fragrance-free\u200b products,&#8221; \u200bresearchers\u200d wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote><\/div>\n<p>This study serves as \u200da wake-up\u200c call for consumers.\u200c While &#8220;green&#8221; products\u200b may reduce exposure to VOC emissions, it&#8217;s important\u2063 to \u2063be aware that they still emit \u200dVOCs.
