Hermann Center for the Federal Budget research fellow said. &#8220;But on top of\u2062 that, we also have a president who is\u2064 so \u2062overtly \u200cpro-Big Labor and\u2063 anti-business that \u2062it emboldens the \u200cheads of \u2062the unions &#8230;\u200b to take more \u2062aggressive action and to\u2062 essentially try to \u200dget higher \u200dpay and \u2064higher benefits \u2064out of \u2063the employers, of course, at the expense of a lower number of people actually employed.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;[Biden&#8217;s] policies are \u200ddoing exactly the opposite of helping these people,&#8221; he added. &#8220;You need look no further\u200c than the inflation \u2062data \u2063that we got [Wednesday] morning\u2063 to\u200c see \u2062that the average American family is\u2064 about $5,000 poorer today than when\u200b Biden took office\u200d just going\u200c by how much prices\u200c have gone up faster than wages.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Job Creators Network President and \u200cCEO \u2063Alfredo Ortiz agreed Biden&#8217;s pro-union \u2062rhetoric had \u200cempowered the UAW to overplay &#8220;its hand&#8221; in the negotiations.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The union&#8217;s\u2063 ridiculous \u200bcompensation demands threaten the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of workers, \u2062thousands of small businesses \u2064that \u2063service the\u2064 Big Three automakers, and even the automakers themselves,&#8221; he said. &#8220;There is a long list \u200bof \u200dvenerable American\u200d companies \u200bthat have\u200b been destroyed by \u200coutrageous \u200cunion demands, \u200cand this concern looms especially large for the Big Three automakers that already face stiff competition from car companies based in\u200b right-to-work states.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Regardless, White House press secretary Karine\u200d Jean-Pierre underscored that\u2064 Biden senior\u200c adviser Gene Sperling and acting Labor Secretary Julie \u200bSu \u200dhave been &#8220;involved&#8221; in the\u2063 UAW negotiations, \u2062&#8221;monitoring and having those conversations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The president believes in\u2062 collective bargaining, has \u200cencouraged sides to continue \u200bto \u200bhave\u2062 that conversation, to continue to be at the table,&#8221; she \u2062said \u200dWednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the\u2063 briefing,\u2062 Council\u2063 of \u2063Economic Advisers Chairman \u200cJared Bernstein\u2062 reminded reporters Biden\u200c had hosted UAW President\u200b Shawn \u2062Fain at the White House, spoken to\u2064 company executives on the phone, and, more broadly, had championed electric vehicle manufacturing. Bernstein similarly dismissed the economic ramifications, insisting instead that &#8220;our\u200c job is to be ready for any contingency that comes our way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;One of the things that unions do is they\u200c help more fairly distribute the benefits\u200c of growth,&#8221; the economist said. &#8220;[Biden&#8217;s] view is \u200dthat \u200bif you&#8217;re \u2064helping to bake the pie,\u2064 if you&#8217;re \u200ccontributing to American \u2062productivity &#8230; then you want to get a \u2063fair shake.
