So, the \u2064public-school unions controlling non-charter public schools are not amused with their sister competitor. \u2064Why? Parents and students are flocking to charter\u2064 schools. They encourage their Democratic minions in Sacramento, whose campaigns \u200bthey helped underwrite to get them into\u2063 the California Legislature,\u2062 to do \u2063their\u200d bidding. And since the Democrats control both the\u2064 Senate and Assembly, \u200bthey nibble away at charter \u200bschools with impunity.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re in the final week of this year\u2019s legislative Session.\u200c In\u200c these final\u2064 few days,\u200c hundreds of bills are\u200d being voted on by both houses. And charter schools are not\u2064 getting a pass\u200d this year.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>One\u2064 antagonistic legislative effort is <a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240AB1604\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Assembly Bill (AB) \u20631604<\/a> by Assemblywoman Mia Bonta (D-Alameda), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/california-ags-lawmaker-wife-recuses-herself-from-overseeing-husbands-budget-5071567\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wife<\/a> of former Assemblyman Rob Bonta, who was appointed to the position of \u2062California Attorney General by\u2064 Gov. Gavin Newsom. Both\u2062 Mia and Rob Bonta are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/california-ag-sues-school-district-over-policy-notifying-parents-of-childs-gender-status-change-5482899\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aggressively<\/a> forcing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/union-advises-teachers-to-disregard-california-school-districts-transgender-student-notification-policy-5455537\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">union agenda<\/a> on school districts.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>What is unique about AB 1604 is that it makes real estate transactions \u2062and bond financing for charter \u200bschools more difficult. If this bill is signed by Newsom, it would require\u200d a charter school that \u2064puts\u2062 a facility up for sale to offer a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/before-he-called-floridas-law-hateful-joe-biden-supported-legislation-against-promoting-sexual-activity-in-schools\/\" title=\"Before He Called Florida\u2019s Law \u2018Hateful,\u2019 Joe Biden Supported Legislation Against Promoting \u2018Sexual Activity\u2019 In Schools\">local educational agency<\/a>, or another public agency, 60 days to acquire the \u2062building before listing it\u200d on\u200b the open market. And it would have to offer it\u2062 at a reduced \u200bcost.<\/p>\n<p>On its face, this sounds reasonable. But think it through. A \u200bbuilding worth $2 million is being put up for sale in order to use the proceeds for a better facility. How does having to sell it to the school district at, say, $1.5 million help this strategy? It doesn\u2019t. It increases the borrowing component of the next purchase and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/another-legislative-attack-against-californias-charter-schools\/\" title=\"More legislation targeting California's charter schools.\">related annual debt servicing costs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>AB 1604\u200c is \u200bsubtle. But it\u2019s wrong. And it\u2019s supported by\u200c the five organizations that represent the usual cast of characters \u2063in the bullying\u200c business: California School Employees Association, California Federation of Teachers, California Labor Federation, California School Boards Association, and California Teachers \u2062Association.<\/p>\n<p>These are organizations who control\u200b the state\u2019s legislature. AB 1604 passed in the Assembly in June \u2062with \u206451 votes from members of \u200bthe supermajority. It passed in the Senate on Sept. 13 with 26 votes. It now heads back to the Assembly \u2062since \u2062it was amended in the Senate.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>There are 65 organizations listed in \u2062the Senate Floor Analysis in\u2064 opposition, many representing \u200binner-city charter schools. But combined,\u200d they do not match the\u200d power of the five bullies and their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/opinion\/los-angeles-oakland-underfunding-charter-schools-5480894\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">angst against<\/a> their successful educational competitors.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Since the bill appears \u200dset to pass the Legislature, get\u200c ready to appeal for Newsom to \u200dstop\u2064 signing bills that hurt charter schools. But\u200c don\u2019t expect\u2063 that to happen, as he needs these \u2063same bullies to underwrite his campaigns.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Commentary: Teachers&#8217; unions in California relentlessly target charter schools, a distressing form of bullying.
