on which House Republicans \u200bhave based their impeachment inquiry, with Mr. Sams providing a 14-page appendix (<a href=\"https:\/\/s3.documentcloud.org\/documents\/23973569\/memo-appendix-impeachment-claims-debunked-14pp.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) that he says comprehensively addresses &#8220;the [seven] key \u200dlies \u200dHouse \u2063Republicans are suggesting they are basing an impeachment on.&#8221;<\/div>\n<p>These \u200bsupposed lies include the claim that President Biden \u200d&#8221;engaged in a bribery scheme with a \u200bforeign national,&#8221; that he is &#8220;compromised by deals with foreign adversaries,&#8221; and that he \u200bgot the Ukrainian prosecutor general\u200c fired to help energy\u200b company Burisma, which employed \u200bhis son Hunter Biden on its board and paid him around a million dollars \u2064a \u200cyear.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged &#8220;lies&#8221; have a factual \u2064basis, \u200bhowever.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">For instance, FBI \u2063Director Christopher Wray <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/fbi-director-confirms-existence-of-document-alleging-biden-engaged-in-bribery-house-gop-5304275\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has confirmed<\/a> the existence of a document alleging that President Biden engaged in a criminal bribery scheme with\u200b a foreign national. \u2062And\u2062 it has been well \u200bdocumented that, in 2015, then-Vice President Biden traveled to Ukraine and threatened to withhold \u200c$1 billion in U.S. aid unless Ukrainian officials agreed to fire then-prosecutor-general Viktor Shokin, who\u2064 was accused\u200d of corruption.<\/div>\n<p>Mr. Shokin later told a European court in a sworn affidavit that he was forced out because he was leading a corruption \u2062probe into Burisma, the\u2064 company that \u2062gave Hunter Biden \u2063a job while his father was responsible for U.S. foreign policy on Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Mr.\u2063 Sams&#8217; memo feeds \u2063into\u2064 a broader narrative that\u200c accuses\u2063 Republicans of having no evidence for the impeachment \u2064inquiry.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">House Oversight Committee Republicans responded to that narrative on Sept. 13 by <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/blog\/evidence-of-joe-bidens-involvement-in-his-familys-influence-peddling-schemes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">releasing a list of evidence<\/a> \u2062 of President Biden&#8217;s alleged involvement in his family&#8217;s &#8220;influence-peddling schemes,&#8221; including transcripts of Congressional testimony from\u200b Hunter\u2062 Biden&#8217;s former \u2063business associate \u2063Devon Archer, who &#8220;described how Joe Biden \u2062was &#8216;The Brand&#8217;\u200b and was used to send &#8216;signals&#8217; of power, access, \u200cand influence to enrich the Biden \u200cfamily from\u200b foreign sources.&#8221;<\/div>\n<h2>&#8216;Culture of Corruption&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>In announcing the impeachment inquiry into President Biden, \u2063House Speaker Kevin McCarthy \u2063(R-Calif.) said that the GOP has uncovered &#8220;serious and\u2064 credible\u200c allegations into President Biden&#8217;s conduct\u2014a culture of corruption.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy detailed some \u2062of this evidence in a letter to \u200chis Republican colleagues, including bank records and testimony, while announcing that\u200b a special meeting would be held on Sept. 14 with \u2062committee \u2063chairs.<\/p>\n<p>House Oversight Committee Chairman\u2063 James Comer (R-Ky.) will lead\u200c the impeachment effort, with House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and House Ways \u2064and\u200d Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.) assisting.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">The three committee chairs\u2062 issued a\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/release\/comer-jordan-smith-statement-on-speaker-mccarthy-opening-an-impeachment-inquiry-into-president-biden%EF%BF%BC\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">joint statement<\/a> on Sept. 12, saying that House Republicans have uncovered an &#8220;overwhelming amount of evidence showing President Joe Biden lied to the American people about his knowledge and participation in his family&#8217;s influence peddling schemes.&#8221;<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Bank records, suspicious\u200b activity reports, emails, texts, and witness\u2064 testimony reveal\u2064 Joe Biden allowed his family to sell him as \u2018the\u2062 brand\u2019 around the world to enrich the Bidens,&#8221; the three lawmakers said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And, thanks to two brave IRS whistleblowers, we know that the Justice Department \u2013 which has been sitting on \u200bmuch of this\u2062 evidence \u2013\u200c has prevented\u200b career investigators from pursuing\u2063 information that could have led to Joe Biden,&#8221;
