Michelle Lujan Grisham.\u200d Photo taken on Sept. 12, 2023. \u2063(Allan Stein\/The Epoch Times)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Gun Owners of America, the\u2062 Gun Owner&#8217;s Foundation, and New Mexico resident Ryan Donk have sued to block the order.<\/p>\n<p>The Second Amendment Foundation, the Firearms Policy Coalition,\u2064 the New Mexico \u2063Shooting Sports Association, and Bernalillo County resident\u2064 Zachary \u2063Fort \u2064have sued Governor Grisham and other officials.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;We are delighted\u200b that the court wasted no time\u2062 clamping\u200c down on Gov. Lujan Grisham&#8217;s clearly unconstitutional suspension of\u2064 Second Amendment rights,&#8221; said Allen M. Gottlieb, founder and executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The National Association for Gun\u200b Rights (NAGR)\u2063 and Albuquerque resident Foster Haines have also filed suit.<\/p>\n<p>Dudley Brown, NAGR president, wrote in a statement, &#8220;Governor Grisham&#8217;s tyranny \u200bis temporarily in check today. Her own Attorney General has\u200c refused to defend her in court, and the Biden-appointed judge \u200cwon&#8217;t back her play.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">The New Mexico Republican Party has\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/epochtv\/new-mexico-republican-party-to-sue-governor-over-right-to-carry-ban-5490782\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vowed<\/a> to join the fight.<\/div>\n<p>A spokesperson for the governor&#8217;s \u2062office \u2064did not respond to \u200da request for comment by press time.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\">\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>New Mexico Republicans said \u2063they will sue\u200c Gov. (NTD\/Screenshot \u2064via \u200cThe\u200d Epoch Times)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Governor Grisham&#8217;s executive\u2064 order, which named gun violence in Albuquerque a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/martinez-we-have-2-4-hour-lines-due-to-new-mexico-lockdown\/\" title=\"Martinez: 'We Have 2-4 Hour Lines' Due to New Mexico Lockdown\">public health emergency<\/a>, has drawn criticism from various groups.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement\u2062 officials, Second Amendment advocates, and\u200b even activists for gun \u2063control have publicly opposed the order.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s \u200cunconstitutional, so there&#8217;s no way we can enforce\u200b that order,&#8221; said Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen. &#8220;This ban does nothing\u200c to curb gun violence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Bernalillo County\u2062 District Attorney Sam Bregman, Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller, and Police \u200dChief Harold Medina have \u200ball refused to enforce the ban.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\">\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Sen. (Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Gun control\u200b activist David \u200cHogg expressed\u200d his reservations about \u200bthe order, stating, &#8220;I support \u200bgun safety, but there is no such thing as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrat-governor-facing-calls-of-impeachment-from-musk-after-attack-on-2a\/\" title=\"Democrat Governor faces impeachment calls from Musk over 2A attack.\">state public health emergency exception<\/a>\u200b to the \u200bU.S. Constitution.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to Governor Grisham, she issued the orders after consulting with \u2064law enforcement and public officials.<\/p>\n<p>However, some officials were\u200c not \u2064on board with the plan and believe there are better ways to\u200b address the issue.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">According to the order, civilians with carry permits would have to place guns in locked boxes and use trigger locks or other \u2062means \u200cto \u2063prevent them \u2062from being fired before carrying them in public. \u2062Licensed\u200d security \u200bguards and\u200b police officers would be exempt from the order.<\/div>\n<h2>Grisham: No Rights Are Absolute<\/h2>\n<p>&#8220;No constitutional rights are\u2063 absolute,&#8221; said \u200dGovernor Grisham during a press conference.\u2064 &#8220;As governor, I must suspend\u200c certain rights when I have declared \u2063an emergency.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No constitut<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. District Court Judge David Urias halted New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham&#8217;s 30-day gun carry ban in two counties, deeming it unconstitutional.
