She stated, &#8220;SB 14 will\u2064 send a direct message to those committing\u2063 this horrific crime of selling our children for sex in the state of California that we\u2062 will no\u200b longer stand by and tolerate this, and you will serve a lengthy prison sentence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Democrat state Senator Susan Rubio\u200d of Baldwin Park \u2064expressed her support\u2062 for the bill, stating that its passage sends a message to victims that California lawmakers are here\u2064 to help and support them.<\/p>\n<p>The bill faced\u200c controversy among State \u200bAssembly Democrats over the summer due to concerns about language\u200c that could potentially prosecute victims forced to assist traffickers.
