The officer in question claims that he was actually mocking the insensitivity\u2064 of \u2062those who \u2062would exploit such a tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>Officer Daniel Auderer, vice president of\u200b the Seattle Police Officers Guild, was responding to an\u200d officer-involved collision \u200don \u2064January 23. Officer Kevin Dave was\u200b driving over 70mph in\u200b a 25mph speed zone when he struck and killed Jaahnavi Kandula while responding to a report of an\u2062 overdose.<\/p>\n<p>Kandula, \u2063a 23-year-old woman\u200c from India, was walking across the intersection \u2063when she was hit. \u200cThe impact from the vehicle threw her over 100 feet, and she later died at Harborview Medical\u200d Center.<\/p>\n<p>The Seattle Police Department (SPD) released the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/9-year-old-girl-pepper-sprayed-during-interaction-with-rochester-police\/\" title=\"9-Year-Old Girl Pepper Sprayed During Interaction With Rochester Police\">body camera footage<\/a> on Monday after \u200ban employee expressed concern about \u200dthe nature of the statements made in the video. The conversation between Auderer and Officer \u2064Mike Solan, the president of the Seattle police\u2062 union, was discovered during the investigation.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI \u2062mean, he\u2062 was going 50 (MPH). That\u2019s not out of control. That\u2019s not reckless\u200b for a trained driver,\u201d \u2062Auderer said, \u2062adding that he\u200c doesn\u2019t believe \u201cshe was thrown 40 feet either.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut she \u200cis dead,\u201d he\u2062 said. She was 26 anyway,\u201d Auderer\u200c said, misidentifying Kandula\u2019s age. \u201cShe had\u2062 limited value.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The King County Medical Examiner\u2063 determined that Kandula&#8217;s\u2064 cause of death was \u200cdue to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/waukesha-parade-attack-suspect-kept-driving-with-head-out-window-as-victims-body-blocked-windshield\/\" title=\"Waukesha Parade Attack Suspect Kept Driving With Head Out Window As Victim\u2019s Body Blocked Windshield\">multiple blunt force injuries<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According \u2064to conservative talk radio 770 \u200dKTTH,\u200b Auderer reported that Solan expressed regret over\u200c Kandula&#8217;s death, stating that it was unfortunate that it would \u2064turn \u2063into a legal battle \u2063over the\u2064 value of \u2062human life.<\/p>\n<p>Auderer\u2064 later clarified that\u2064 his\u200b comments were \u2062intended to mock the\u2062 legal process\u200b and were not made with malice or a hard heart.\u200c However, he acknowledged that \u2062they could be perceived as insensitive.<\/p>\n<p>The Seattle Community Police Commission (CPC) released a statement condemning the conversation between Auderer and Solan, describing \u200cit as heartbreaking \u200band shockingly insensitive.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe video was appalling, and it \u2064was heartbreaking and incredibly\u2062 insensitive,\u201d\u200c Joel Merkel, Co-Chair of CPC, said. \u201cJust hearing someone who works at SPD\u200b say that about a human life \u2064moments after she was\u200b killed by being \u200dstruck \u2062by a Seattle police vehicle is absolutely heartbreaking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday was the first time anyone at\u2064 CPC saw\u2064 this video,\u201d\u2063 the statement continued. \u201cThe CPC is really focused on helping ensure that the community can trust its police department. The community deserves a police department that shares its \u200dvalues \u2063and that it can trust.
