Anthony \u200bPortantino (D-Glendale) in February, would criminalize those who disrupt school board meetings or harass teachers, other\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/calif-gov-newsom-announces-2b-plan-to-reopen-schools-by-spring\/\" title=\"Calif. Gov. The School Caved.\">school administrators<\/a> over controversial content in their children\u2019s classrooms\u2014including those who express concern about classrooms\u200b celebrating LGBT Pride\u200d month and other lessons\u200d containing gender ideology in classrooms.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    \u2064  \u201cActions that incite fear amongst educators who are teaching in accordance with state standards \u200care\u200d counterproductive, unacceptable and \u2062potentially dangerous,\u201d said Mr. Portantino in a February <a href=\"https:\/\/sd25.senate.ca.gov\/news\/2023-02-16\/senator-portantino-introduces-bill-protect-teachers-harassment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. \u201cToo many teachers are being intimidated\u2064 and harassed for just\u200c doing their job.\u2063 [Senate Bill] 596 will\u200c ensure \u2064that they can continue\u2063 to be dedicated educators, helping their students thrive \u2062unencumbered by fear \u2063and intimidation.\u201d\n  <\/div>\n<p>The bill\u2019s consideration comes after months of\u200c rising tension in Mr. Portantino\u2019s Glendale district over its\u200c policies on LGBT \u2062topics \u200cin classrooms.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\">\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Several\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/constitutional-carry-passes-georgia-senate-heads-to-house\/\" title=\"Constitutional Carry Passes Georgia Senate, Heads to House\">hundred people gathered<\/a> for a\u200d demonstration outside of Glendale Unified\u2019s \u200bboard meeting, where\u2063 the school \u200cboard voted unanimously \u2062to proclaim June 2023 as \u2063\u201cLGBT Pride\u200b Month,\u201d\u2063 in Glendale, Calif., on June 6,\u2063 2023. (Micaela Ricaforte\/The Epoch Times)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In June, \u2064three people \u200cwere arrested after a brawl broke out \u2063between demonstrators and counter-protestors in opposition to the Glendale Unified School District\u2019s recognition of Pride Month and LGBT content in \u2062classrooms.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    Those \u200cin opposition say they want \u200bthe district to focus on teaching academics and allow parents to introduce such topics to children on their\u2063 own \u2063terms.<\/p>\n<h2>A Unconstitutional Bill to \u2062Silence Parents: Critics<\/h2>\n<p>    \u200c Aneta\u2062 Krpekyan, a Glendale Unified parent, \u200dtold The Epoch Times \u2064in an email \u200dthat the bill is an attempt \u200bby lawmakers\u200c to find a legal way to silence parents.<br \/>\n\u2063  \u2064\n  <\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201c[Mr. Portantino] pushes this bill under the\u2063 guise of protecting educators from \u2018harassment,\u2019\u200d when \u2064it\u2019s actually a bill that protects \u2064teachers from any\u200c criticism when they go rogue on their curriculum,\u201d \u200csaid Ms. Krpekyan,\u200c who also plans to run for the Glendale Unified School Board.\u2063 \u201cThis is a parents\u2019 \u200csilencing bill and nothing\u2063 more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Ms. Krpekyan said the bill seeks to place teachers and district \u200cemployees in\u2062 a protected class of their own, while stomping on basic\u200b parental rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis bill protects school employees from public criticism,\u200b not harassment,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Krpekyan further claimed \u200dthe bill could infringe on the First Amendment rights of parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only does \u200ct<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A California bill, SB 596, aiming to criminalize harassment of school employees and disruption of school board meetings, has progressed to the state Senate floor.
