John\u200b Kennedy (R-La.) noted\u200b that the forum heard from 30 speakers, each\u200d with only three minutes to \u2063talk. As to meaningful policy proposals, he added, there wasn\u2019t much to speak of.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn \u2062terms of regulatory suggestions, I\u2064 didn\u2019t hear much,\u201d Mr. Kennedy told The Epoch \u200bTimes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cDo we have\u200d some sort of overarching regulatory framework that \u200dwe\u2019re close to agreeing on that addresses the dangers and the potential of artificial intelligence, in\u200b my judgment? No. We \u2064just don\u2019t right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kennedy said that Congress\u2064 has gone seven years without passing any meaningful bills to protect Americans\u2019 privacy on social media or move forward \u200bon antitrust legislation despite\u200d apparent bipartisan consensus. Asked if he believed Congress could craft meaningful legislation to govern AI\u200c in the near future, his answer\u200b was grim and simple.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>\u201cI think the way \u200bmost senators feel about artificial intelligence\u2063 is that it has extraordinary potential to make our lives \u200dbetter \u200cif it doesn\u2019t make our lives worse first.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><b>Forum Criticized for Offering No Real Progress on AI<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>A key point \u200bof contention among those\u2062 leaving the\u200c forum was Mr. Schumer\u2019s making sweeping\u2064 promises that the media frenzy would help to\u200c promote some sort \u200bof legislative progress \u2063concerning AI regulation.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Mr. Schumer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/schumer-announces-framework-for-regulating-ai-revolution-5347556\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously vowed<\/a> that such forums would \u200bbe a vital avenue for forming a legislative framework to contend with the \u201crevolution\u201d \u200cof AI.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Leaving the \u2064forum, however, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) \u200bsaid he \u2062doubted Mr. Schumer\u2019s sincerity in seeking \u200dsolutions to protect the American\u2064 public from AI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a little bit like with antitrust\u2064 the last two years,\u201d Mr.\u2062 Hawley said. \u201cHe talks about it constantly and does nothing about it. You\u2019ll see. My\u200c sense is \u200d [that] a big\u200d part of what this is is a lot of song and\u200c dance \u2064that covers the fact\u2063 that actually nothing is advancing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Hawley\u2019s reference was to a series of vows made by Mr. Schumer over the \u200ccourse of a number \u2063of \u200cyears to bring antitrust legislation to\u200b Congress to limit the scope \u200bof\u200d mammoth tech corporations. After \u2063postponing such legislation time and again, however, Mr.\u2063 Schumer in January refused to bring the \u200bwritten legislation to the Senate floor, claiming \u2063it would not receive enough votes to pass.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Some have questioned Mr. Schumer\u2019s assertion and also raised\u2064 issues \u200bwith the long-time \u200dsenator\u2019s deep ties to the tech companies in question.\u200d In total, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/05\/12\/more-o-staffers-employed-by-big-tech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more than 80<\/a> of Mr. Schumer\u2019s former staffers \u2063now work for major \u200ctech corporations. Likewise, both of Mr. Schumer\u2019s daughters <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/01\/18\/schumers-daughters-work-for-amazon-facebook-as-he-holds-power-over-antitrust-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">work for major\u200d tech corporations<\/a> that would be directly affected by such legislation, one as a marketing manager for Meta and one as a \u200blobbyist for Amazon.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>To that end, Mr. Hawley also said\u2063 the CEOs who were present claimed to be in favor of very vague regulations but would balk when presented with firm\u200b demands from the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m really worried that this is\u2063 the same song, second verse,\u201d Hawley\u200b said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>\u201cSoon, we\u2019ll hear: \u2018Well, we need to go really slow. Well,\u200b we can\u2019t really agree well. Let\u2019s study it. And \u2063then, five years\u200b from now, it\u2019ll be a bonanza \u200bwhere all of the money will\u2062 be going to\u2062 these companies, and we\u2019ll be \u2063losing jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><b>Congressional Delay on AI \u2064Linked to Erosion \u200dof Privacy,\u2062 Civil Rights<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>The forum \u2064comes amid a series of \u2062<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/defense-secretary-lloyd-austin-various-websites-add-fuel-to-military-partisanship\/\" title=\"Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin: 'Various Websites' Add Fuel to Military Partisanship\">high-profile congressional hearings<\/a> on the issue \u200dof AI.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Lawmakers are grappling with how \u200bto mitigate the dangers of the emerging technology, which has experienced a boom in investment in \u2062recent years.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>During\u200d one such Senate \u200bsubcommittee hearing in\u2064 May, Sen.
