The bill was approved by legislators. <\/p>\n<p>The bill was approved \u200din \u2062a 28-8 vote \u200bin the state Senate, limiting who can \u2063receive \u200da <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mark-w-smith-clever-but-wrong-inside-the-anti-gun-arguments-at-the-supreme-court\/\" title=\"Mark W. Smith: Clever but Wrong -- Inside the Anti-Gun Arguments at the Supreme Court\">concealed-carry permit<\/a> in California\u2064 through an overhauled licensing process, additional age\u2064 requirements, tight storage rules,\u2063 and a list of dozens of \u201csensitive places\u201d where firearms are not\u200d allowed.<\/p>\n<p>According to reports, the revisions\u200d of the bill require\u2062 concealed-carry applicants \u2064to be at least\u200b 21-years-old\u200d and to have\u2063 completed at least\u200c 16 hours of weapon training. Applicants who are suspected to be dangerous may be \u200ddisqualified.<\/p>\n<p>Reports also state that licensing authorities, \u200cmostly county \u200csheriff\u2019s departments, would be \u200centrusted with conducting in-person interviews with applicants, gathering character references, and monitoring \u2063their\u200d social media profiles to uncover\u2062 potential \u2062safety \u2062issues.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed bill also includes a ban on bringing guns\u200c into sensitive places which includes schools, courts, government buildings, prisons, hospitals, airports, and bars. Commercial businesses would reportedly be automatically gun-free zones unless the owner explicitly opts out.<\/p>\n<p>Portantino introduced Senate \u2064Bill 2 in response to a Supreme Court ruling last year that \u2062declared restrictive and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-legislature-passes-concealed-carry-restrictions\/\" title=\"California Legislature Approves Limits on Concealed-Carry\">subjective concealed-carry laws unconstitutional<\/a>, forcing California and\u2062 a handful of \u2062other Democrat-led\u2064 states to rewrite their gun laws.<\/p>\n<p>The Court had decided in June 2022 to overturn\u2064 New \u2062York\u2019s \u201cproper-cause\u201d legislation, which required\u200d citizens to establish a \u2063specific necessity in order to carry a\u200c concealed weapon in public. The established legal precedent therefore weakened similar rules in California and other states that require people to disclose reasons for applying\u200b for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/merrick-garlands-department-of-justice-is-a-threat-to-the-republic\/\" title=\"Merrick Garland\u2019s Department Of Justice Is A Threat To The Republic\">concealed-carry license<\/a>. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe Supreme Court forced California to reevaluate how \u2063we \u2064do concealed-carry permits,\u201d Portantino said. \u201cThis is\u2063 setting up a\u200d statewide standard to determine \u2062who should and shouldn\u2019t be trusted with the responsibility of having a concealed-carry permit \u2026 this just makes sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Governor \u200bGavin \u200bNewsom (D-Calif.) released a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2023\/09\/11\/yet-another-way-california-is-keeping-people-safer-from-gun-violence\/\">statement<\/a> after\u2064 the \u2063law was approved \u2064by the legislature,\u2064 stating that they are doing\u200d anything\u2063 they can to make the Golden State safer. <\/p>\n<p>The Democrat governor now has until October 14<sup>th<\/sup> to sign the\u2064 bill.<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
