This undermines the state&#8217;s argument that the law is solely concerned with unlawful activity.<\/p>\n<p>The \u20649th \u2062Circuit Court of Appeals, known for its left-leaning \u2063stance, consists of nearly \u200c30 active judges. Notably, the \u2063three judges on the panel that issued \u2062this ruling were appointed by Republican presidents.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>As of now, the California Attorney \u200dGeneral&#8217;s office and the groups that challenged the ban \u200dhave not \u200creleased any public \u200bstatements regarding the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Lee&#8217;s opinion was echoed by 9th Circuit \u200cJudge Lawrence \u2064VanDyke, who accused California officials, including \u2062Governor Gavin Newsom and state \u200dDemocrats, of \u200cattempting \u200dto shape\u200c public opinion on firearms. Judge VanDyke \u200cargued\u200c that the law targeted a specific message and violated First Amendment protections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCalifornia wants to legislate views about firearms,\u201d he wrote \u200cin\u200b the ruling. \u201cCalifornia has\u200b thus singled out a particular message it does not like and \u2062prohibited its proliferation. Its intent to stamp out this speech is evident from\u2062 the record. And it crafted a targeted legislative scheme to get \u200cthe job done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the judge, the First Amendment requires more than good intentions to justify the government&#8217;s suppression of speech, as\u2063 stated \u200bin the opinion.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, signed the law, citing the need for new legislation in response \u2063to the Supreme Court&#8217;s decision to expand the right to carry firearms for self-defense outside the home.
