The U.S. Food and Drug Administration similarly authorized and approved\u2062 the\u2062 new mRNA-based shots, made by Pfizer and Moderna.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, \u2062since mid-August, \u200cthere has been widespread speculation that the \u2064CDC \u200band \u2063other\u2064 federal agencies may attempt to recommend or\u200c push lockdowns, vaccine mandates, or masking mandates in the midst \u2063of a small upswing in COVID-19 cases across the United States.\u200b A small number of schools, colleges, hospitals, and private businesses have implemented masking mandates, sparking alarm among some\u2063 GOP\u2063 elected officials and \u2063candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Several weeks ago, meanwhile, the Transportation Security \u200bAdministration (TSA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/federal-agency-responds-to-rumors-of-coming-covid-19-lockdown-5480715\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> The Epoch Times \u200dthat claims the agency held discussions that it would be \u200dre-implementing mandates or \u200clockdowns are incorrect. Meanwhile,\u2062 a spokesman for\u2064 the CDC told The \u200bAssociated\u2063 Press \u2063around the\u2062 same time \u2062that reports of pending lockdowns are &#8220;utterly false.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When asked by \u2062The\u2063 Epoch Times about discussions around a possible federal\u2063 mask mandate\u2064 recommendation, \u2063a spokesperson \u2064said\u200d late last month that COVID-19 hospital admission levels &#8220;are currently low for \u206496 percent&#8221; of\u2064 the United\u2063 States. A separate \u2064spokesperson told other outlets that there were no\u200d agency discussions about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cdc-director-responds-to-covid-19-mask-mandate-speculation\/\" title=\"CDC Director addresses COVID-19 mask mandate rumors.\">bringing mask mandates back<\/a>,\u200b while no new masking guidelines have been issued on the CDC&#8217;s website in\u2063 recent days.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200dCDC\u200c in January 2021 issued an order that required people to wear masks on public transportation, including planes and inside transportation hubs. A federal\u200c judge struck down the \u200crule \u200ca year later, allowing companies to switch to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/i-have-rejected-this-request-ron-desantis-refuses-bidens-call-for-natl-guard-at-state-of-the-union\/\" title=\"\u2018I Have Rejected This Request\u2019: Ron DeSantis Refuses Biden\u2019s Call For Nat\u2019l Guard At State Of The Union\">mask-optional policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Cohen\u2063 also was asked by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tSKpUYy4rTY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PBS \u200breporter<\/a> about COVID-19 cases being \u2063reported at \u2063schools \u2062and asked whether schools and workplaces should &#8220;take those steps&#8221;\u200c to implement mask rules.<\/p>\n<p>While she did not explicitly recommend mask mandates at some schools \u200bor businesses, the CDC director claimed that \u200dwearing a mask could protect \u2063against COVID-19. A range of \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/opinion\/more-than-150-comparative-studies-and-articles-on-mask-ineffectiveness-and-harms-4230904\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">studies<\/a> over\u200d the years have shown that masks \u2062may not be effective in preventing transmission of \u200bthe virus, \u2062but some studies\u2063 cited by the CDC on its website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/science\/science-briefs\/masking-science-sars-cov2.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">say<\/a> \u2064 that they can block transmission.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Testing \u200band treatment is an important tool, and, of course, as you \u200bmentioned, washing your hands, wearing \u200ba mask when there\u2019s more circulating \u200cvirus, staying home \u200cwhen you\u2019re sick, improving ventilation,&#8221; Mrs. Cohen\u00a0said in response to the reporter&#8217;s question.\u2064 &#8220;These are all layers of tools that \u200bwe can use to protect ourselve[s]. We\u2019re \u200bin\u200b a \u2064better place than we\u2019ve ever been to be \u2062able to do that. We just\u200b need to use these tools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this \u2062month, a school in Montgomery County, Maryland, \u2063controversially issued a mask mandate for a kindergarten class after several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/alabama-county-re-imposes-mask-mandates-at-government-buildings\/\" title=\"Alabama County reinstates mask mandates for government buildings.\">students tested positive<\/a> \u2062for the \u200dvirus.
