The campaign\u200d materials feature endearing graphics with two opposing animals, such\u2062 as a fierce lion and a kitten,\u200d a grizzly bear and teddy bear,\u2063 and a mean gorilla \u2064and stuffed monkey, to convey its message.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ads for the new campaign began \u200crolling out this week on radio and social media platforms targeting pregnant women and parents of young children, as vaccination rates have declined in these high-risk groups.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Dr. Bill \u2062Schaffner, an infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt University and member of the CDC\u2019s advisory panel on vaccines, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/09\/06\/health\/flu-shot-wild-to-mild-campaign\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told CNN<\/a> he believes the agency \u200bis taking the right approach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith these respiratory\u2062 viruses, flu included, \u200cthe vaccines aren\u2019t very good at preventing\u200b milder disease. They\u2019re\u2064 much better at preventing serious complications. And I think we have not been very clear in presenting \u2062that \u200cinformation,\u201d Schaffner said. \u201cWe have to acknowledge that. We have to say \u2018Yep, it won\u2019t prevent that mild disease.\u200b But here\u2019s the benefit.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>This is similar to the marketing U.S. regulatory agencies used with \u2062COVID-19 vaccines. Americans were first told they\u200b would only need two doses of an\u2063 mRNA \u2063COVID-19 vaccine or a single dose of the Johnson &#038;\u2063 Johnson shown to prevent COVID-19\u2014and that getting vaccinated would \u200dprotect \u2064their neighbor. After Americans started experiencing breakthrough infections, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?528571-1\/centers-disease-control-director-testifies-covid-19-policies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. \u200chealth \u2062agencies<\/a> admitted the shots did not prevent COVID-19 or transmission of the virus to others, and vaccine efficacy was redefined by whether the vaccine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/health\/why-vaccines-for-common-respiratory-illnesses-give-dubious-protection-5255555\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prevented \u2063hospitalizations and death<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p><strong>Linda Wastila, professor and Parke-Davis chair of geriatric pharmacotherapy with a doctorate in health policy,\u200b told The Epoch Times in an email that\u2063 she finds it interesting the CDC is \u2064now promoting flu vaccines as\u200b a means \u200bof preventing severe disease instead of the flu.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wonder if they will\u200c go and revise their language for all the other vaccines, the vast majority of which also fail to prevent infection,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>Years of Data Show Flu Shots Have Low\u200d Efficacy<\/h2>\n<p>According to the CDC, all\u200c flu vaccines for the 2023\u20132024 season will be \u2062quadrivalent vaccines, meaning they will contain strains designed to target four different flu viruses. The \u200dCDC annually conducts its own studies \u2064to determine how well influenza\u2063 vaccines protect against \u200bthe flu and uses those and previous studies with different strains\u200d to support the statements made about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/recipe-for-disaster-combining-covid-19-ba4-5-and-influenza-mrna\/\" title=\"Recipe for Disaster: Combining COVID-19 BA4\/5 and Influenza mRNA\">influenza vaccine effectiveness<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Factors affecting vaccine efficacy depend\u200d on which flu viruses are circulating and how well-matched those viruses are\u2064 to flu vaccines. According to the agency, flu vaccine effectiveness has\u2062 ranged from 10\u200d percent in 2004 to 54 percent\u2063 in 2023.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>In a September 2023 study <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/72\/wr\/mm7237e1.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published by the CDC<\/a> in its \u2064Morbidity and Mortality Weekly\u200c Report, a \u2062research team \u200cfrom the CDC analyzed data from 2,780 patients \u2064hospitalized with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-flu-has-virtually-disappeared-from-u-s\/\" title=\"Report: Flu Has \u2018Virtually Disappeared\u2019 From U.S.\">severe acute respiratory infection<\/a> from five South American countries from March 27 \u2062to July 9, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2063 researchers determined the 2023\u2064 Southern\u2063 Hemisphere seasonal influenza vaccine reduced the risk of influenza-associated \u2062hospitalizations \u2064by 52 percent, with an estimated protection of 55 percent against the predominant A(H1N1)pdm09 strain. Because circulating viruses \u2064are genetically similar to those in the Northern Hemisphere, they concluded the formulation may offer equal protection.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The current study used \u2063to support \u200bCDC recommendations only focused on specific high-risk\u2063 groups, including pregnancy over three months, but the \u2063agency recommends \u200dall people in the United States ages 6 months and older receive a flu shot in September or \u200bOctober.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>The agency says\u200c other recent studies show influenza vaccination reduces the risk of\u2063 illness by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/flu\/vaccines-work\/vaccineeffect.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">40 to\u2063 60 percent<\/a> among\u200b the overall population during seasons \u200dwhen most circulating flu \u200dviruses are well-matched\u2063 to\u2063 the\u2062 strains used to\u200b make flu vaccines. Yet the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/flu\/highrisk\/pregnant.htm?s_cid=WS-OS-CMPGN-P2-PWOM---PTR-EN-1#anchor_1571257723\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">other CDC studies<\/a> \u2064 used by the agency to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/flu\/highrisk\/pregnant.htm?s_cid=WS-OS-CMPGN-P2-PWOM---PTR-EN-1#anchor_1571257723\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">support flu vaccine efficacy<\/a> specifically during \u200cpregnancy are \u2064several years old, funded by\u2062 the agency, and relate to other vaccines.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>Safety of Flu\u200b Vaccines\u200d in Pregnant Women<\/h2>\n<p>According to the National Foundation of Infectious \u200bDiseases, flu vaccination coverage decreased by 6 percentage points to 58 percent among children and adolescents ages 6 months to 17 years during the 2021\u20132022 flu season. Vaccination coverage dropped \u2064among pregnant women to\u200b 50 \u200cpercent from 55 percent during the same period and has fallen 16.6 percentage \u2062points since the pandemic&#8217;s start in March 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC\u2019s safety data on flu vaccines during \u2063pregnancy consists of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/flu\/highrisk\/qa_vacpregnant.htm#studies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">handful of \u200cstudies<\/a> carried out by\u2063 the agency between 2011 \u2063and 2014. The \u200dCDC lists two studies on its webpage that \u2063assessed the\u2063 risks of influenza \u200cvaccines \u200bin newborns, with the most recent\u2062 2020 study using data gathered between 2007 and 2015.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Although the agency says most \u2062influenza vaccines will\u200b be thimerosal-free, some\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/flu\/professionals\/acip\/summary\/summary-recommendations.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recommended flu vaccines<\/a> contain this controversial ingredient. Thimerosal\u2063 is a mercury-based preservative in some U.S. vaccines and is associated with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hindawi.com\/journals\/bmri\/2014\/247218\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">severe neurological disorders<\/a>,\u200c even in trace amounts.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Although the CDC claims that thimerosal is safe and was taken out of\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccinesafety\/concerns\/thimerosal\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pediatric vaccines<\/a> in\u2062 2001, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cdc-rolls-out-wild-to-mild-flu-shot-campaign-to-reach-vaccine-hesitant\/\" title=\"CDC launches 'Wild to Mild' flu shot campaign to target vaccine skeptics.\">peer-reviewed scientific publications demonstrate broad consensus<\/a> among independent research scientists that\u2064 thimerosal is dangerous. Up to 25 micrograms of thimerosal remain in many of the \u200dinfluenza vaccines offered during the 2023\u20132024 flu season, including those administered to pregnant women and infants.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>CDC Promotes 3 Respiratory\u200b Virus Vaccines for Fall With No Safety Data<\/h2>\n<p>The new quadrivalent flu shot is just one of three\u2062 vaccines coming down the CDC&#8217;s\u2063 pipeline this fall. \u200dThe agency recommends bivalent COVID-19 vaccines\u2014recently authorized by the\u2064 U.S\u2063 Food and Drug\u200d Administration\u200b (FDA)\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/news-events\/press-announcements\/fda-takes-action-updated-mrna-covid-19-vaccines-better-protect-against-currently-circulating\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wi<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During the pandemic, fewer Americans were willing to get a flu shot due to reports of vaccinated individuals falling ill and concerns about side effects.
