Jones, an appointee of\u200c former President Barack Obama, argued that Meadows\u2019 \u2063actions fell outside the scope of his role \u200bas chief of staff when \u2063organizing the Jan. 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, 2021 phone call between former President Donald Trump and Georgia\u2019s secretary of state Brad Raffensperger. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cMeadows\u2019s \u2064participation on the January 2, 2021\u200c call \u200bwas political in nature and involved the President\u2019s private litigation, neither of which are related\u2062 to\u2063 the scope of\u200d the Office of White House Chief of Staff,\u201d Jones wrote. \u201cThe\u200c Court finds that \u2064these contributions to the phone\u2062 call with\u2062 Secretary Raffensperger went beyond those activities that are within the official role of White House \u2063Chief of \u2064Staff,\u2062 such as scheduling the President\u2019s phone calls, observing meetings, and attempting \u200cto wrap up\u2063 meetings in order to keep\u200b the President on schedule.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>When \u200dappealing this decision, Meadows\u2019 attorneys\u200b wrote that Jones \u201cegregiously erred\u201d in his \u2063ruling to \u2062deny the former chief \u2064of staff\u2019s request to move the case to federal court.
