Pramila \u200cJayapal (D-Wash.) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepJayapal\/status\/1701632645434626463?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spoke out<\/a> on social media.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This &#8230; is Kevin McCarthy\u2019s shiny new object to distract\u200c the public from the fact that the\u2064 GOP can\u2019t even \u2064pass bills to fund \u200bthe government,&#8221; Ms. Jayapal said. &#8220;So, here we go\u2014headed to an extreme MAGA Republican \u2063shutdown while they play political games with \u200ba non-starter impeachment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Sen. Jacky\u2062 Rosen (D-Nev.) asserted that the Republican efforts leaned on &#8220;MAGA-laced conspiracy theories&#8221; that are &#8220;stopping us from doing our business.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Sen. Dick Durbin\u2064 (D-Ill.) said Mr. McCarthy has\u2063 &#8220;no evidence&#8221; to support the inquiry.<\/p>\n<h2>Republicans Respond<\/h2>\n<p>Among Republicans, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) declined \u200cto specifically offer support but said he\u200b thought it was \u2062best \u200bfor the Senate to do their jobs and &#8220;see how this plays out later.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think Speaker McCarthy needs any\u200b advice from\u200b the Senate on how to\u200d run the House,\u201d Mr. Connell \u2064told reporters on Sept. 12.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow Republican Mitt Romney (R-Utah) asserted that the inquiry &#8220;could have\u200d been\u2063 avoided&#8221; with more transparency but, when asked by reporters on Capitol Hill if he specifically supports the measure, \u200bsaid it&#8217;s &#8220;the House&#8217;s undertaking.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Ark.) was firmly in support \u200bof\u200c the move.<\/p>\n<p>The House needs to be &#8220;able to get the \u200cfacts.
