min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>On\u200b Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240SB14\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240SB14\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Senate Bill 14<\/a>, written\u2062 by Senator Shannon Grove (R-Calif.), \u200bpassed the state \u200cAssembly in a 79-0 vote and now returns to the State Senate\u2063 for \u2063approval of a revision made two weeks ago. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" data-placeholder-image=\"https:\/\/c3.oann.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/complianz-gdpr\/assets\/images\/placeholders\/twitter-minimal.jpg\" class=\"cmplz-placeholder-element twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: Bill that makes child sex trafficking in California a serious felony to keep repeat offenders in\u2062 prison longer  passes the Assembly 79-0.\u200b <\/p>\n<p>Now heads back to the Senate for approval\u200b of tweaks made\u2064 to the bill. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/je3FOQZTSt\">pic.twitter.com\/je3FOQZTSt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ashley Zavala (@ZavalaA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ZavalaA\/status\/1701396697237307702?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 12, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script type=\"text\/plain\" data-service=\"twitter\" data-category=\"marketing\" async data-cmplz-src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The bill\u200b approved by the Assembly includes an addendum that legislators believe \u200densures human trafficking victims, who are occasionally\u2063 forced to\u2064 assist traffickers, are\u2064 not prosecuted under the\u2064 new law.<\/p>\n<p>The senator spoke to reporters in a statement\u2063 after the vote.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWe are one step closer to \u2064making the horrific crime of\u2062 child sex trafficking a \u200bserious felony,\u201d Grove said. \u201cSB 14 \u200cwill increase jail time for\u200d repeat offenders who sell children for sex and \u2063commit the most heinous acts \u2063on our\u2062 children.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If the bill is passed, child sex trafficking would be classified as a major felony under California law, making it a strikable violation, which\u2062 means repeat offenders or those who have committed additional strikable acts might face longer time in prison, up to and including life. <\/p>\n<p>Grove \u2062stated that the measure\u2019s goal is to keep serial child sex \u200ctraffickers from being freed from prison\u200d too quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Assembly\u2063 members from both parties reportedly emphasized\u200c that this \u200cis the \u200dsixth time lawmakers have suggested the concept, which has been continuously defeated by a key committee that is known for opposing initiatives that raise prison sentences \u201cin order to reduce overcrowding,\u201d or so they claim.<\/p>\n<p>SB-14 was approved after a revision\u2064 was inserted\u200c to address concerns that victims who were forced to collaborate with their traffickers may\u200b also be prosecuted and imprisoned.<\/p>\n<p>The bill will \u200cnow be sent to the Senate. <\/p>\n<p>If it passes there, the bill will be sent to Governor Gavin Newsom\u2019s \u200b(D-Calif.) desk.<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
