In fact, both impeachments touch upon the\u2063 same incident, but from opposite \u2064sides.<\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced the impeachment inquiry on Sept. 12,\u200b summarizing the results of\u200b the investigations to date, including nearly $20 million in alleged payments from foreign sources to the Biden family and\u200c associates, the president\u2019s past communications with his son Hunter Biden about his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-secret-service-intervened-in-hunter-biden-gun-incident-lied-on-background-check-form-report-says\/\" title=\"BREAKING: Secret Service Intervened In Hunter Biden Gun Incident; Lied On Background Check Form, Report Says\">overseas business dealings<\/a>, as well as whistleblower allegations that the Department of Justice extended special treatment\u200b to the Biden family.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Related Stories<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/epochtv\/biden-family-business-dealings-being-probed-for-impeachable-offenses-5490340\">Biden Family Business \u200dDealings Being Probed for Impeachable Offenses<\/a> &#8211; 9\/12\/2023<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/prosecutors-to-seek-hunter-biden-indictment-for-felony-gun-crime-5487308\">Prosecutors to Seek\u2063 Hunter Biden Indictment for Felony Gun Crime<\/a> &#8211; 9\/6\/2023<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The \u2064centerpiece of the allegations goes back to 2016, when then-Vice \u2063President Biden used a $1\u2063 billion loan guarantee \u200cas leverage to\u200d have\u2064 Ukraine\u2063 fire prosecutor Victor\u2062 Shokin, who was investigating Ukrainian energy\u2063 company Burisma. At the time, the \u200dvice \u2064president&#8217;s son Hunter Biden \u200cwas collecting $1 million\u200c a year to sit on the company\u2019s board and Burisma associates were pressuring him to\u200d ensure any \u2062investigations into the company\u2019s owner were quashed.<\/p>\n<p>It was President \u2063Trump\u2019s requesting assistance from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in investigating this\u2063 matter during a 2019 phone call that prompted House Democrats to launch an impeachment inquiry of him and later voting to\u2062 impeach\u200c him. President\u200d Trump was acquitted by the GOP-led Senate at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine has long been a crucible\u200d of geopolitical tensions, culminating in Russia\u2019s invasion of the country in 2022. Hunter Biden was given the Burisma position in 2014, three months after Vice \u2062President Biden was designated by President Barack Obama as \u201cpoint-man\u201d for Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Shokin was appointed Ukraine\u2019s \u200bprosecutor \u2064general \u200cin February 2015 and later that year started preparing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ukraine-plays-key-role-in-biden-impeachment-inquiry-just-as-it-did-with-trump\/\" title=\"Ukraine's Role in Biden Impeachment Inquiry, Echoing Trump Era\">money laundering case tied<\/a> to Burisma.<\/p>\n<p>On Nov. \u200b2, 2015, Hunter Biden received an email from Burisma owner Mykola Zlochevsky\u2019s adviser, Vadym Pozharskyi, demanding \u201cdeliverables\u201d and saying that the \u201cultimate purpose\u201d was to \u201cclose down any cases or pursuits\u201d against Zlochevsky.<\/p>\n<p>Several weeks later,\u200d Vice President Biden visited Ukraine and, among other \u200bthings, demanded the removal \u2064of Mr. Shokin.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\" style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"aligncenter\"><figcaption>President Donald Trump holds a copy\u2064 of The\u200b Washington Post as he speaks in \u200dthe\u2062 East Room of the White House one \u2063day after the U.S. Senate acquitted on two articles of impeachment, on Feb. 6, 2020. (Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>While there were \u200csome \u200caccusations that Mr. Shokin was corrupt, \u2063the U.S. government seemed satisfied with his performance.<\/p>\n<p>Just weeks before the vice president\u2019s\u200c visit,\u200b a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/greg-abbott-launches-operation-lone-star-to-combat-crisis-caused-by-biden-administration-policies\/\" title=\"Greg Abbott Launches \u2018Operation Lone Star\u2019 To Combat \u2018Crisis\u2019 Caused By \u2018Biden Administration Policies\u2019\">joint task force<\/a> of \u2062U.S. State, Treasury, \u2063and Justice Department officials deemed Ukraine\u2019s\u2064 progress on anti-corruption sufficient to earn \u200cit\u200b another $1 billion loan guarantee.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Victoria Nuland, then-assistant U.S. secretary of state, \u2064wrote to Mr. Shokin \u2064in June 2015 that \u201cwe have been impressed with the ambitious reform and anti-corruption agenda of your government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When \u2062Ukraine\u2019s then-President Petro Poroshenko didn\u2019t initially act on \u200cVice President Biden\u2019s demand, \u2064the \u2064latter threatened to withhold the $1 billion \u200bloan \u2063guarantee. He later boasted about the incident during a 2018 Council on \u2063Foreign Relations event.<\/p>\n<p>On \u200dJuly 25,\u200c 2019, when President Trump called President\u200d Zelenskyy to congratulate him \u2063on\u200c winning a majority in the Ukrainian parliament, he mentioned that he would like Ukraine to examine the circumstances of Mr. Shokin\u2019s firing and former Vice President Biden\u2019s role in the matter. (Saul Loeb\/AFP\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of talk about Biden\u2019s son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a \u200dlot of people\u2063 want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the \u200dAttorney General would be great,\u200b Biden\u2062 went\u2062 around bragging\u2062 that he stopped the prosecution so if you can \u200clook into it\u2026 It sounds horrible to me,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/article\/full-transcript-of-call-between-trump-and-zelensky-released-3094727\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he said<\/a>.<\/div>\n<p>Democrats interpreted it as President \u200cTrump\u2019s abusing \u200dhis power to\u200b have his political\u2062 opponent investigated.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump has insisted the call was nothing\u2064 wrong\u2063 with the call and that Democrats were trying to cover up the Biden family&#8217;s corruption.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans now say there indeed was corruption worth investigating.\u200d In addition\u2064 to the money Hunter Biden received in \u200dUkraine, they also \u2063point to payments from Elena Baturina,\u2064 the\u2063 wife of a former mayor of\u200b Moscow, as well as money from companies linked to the Chinese Communist Party.<\/p>\n<p>They also capitalize on\u200c evidence \u2064that contradicts President Biden\u2019s claims that he never discussed with his son his \u2064overseas business and\u200c that there \u200cwas a\u200d \u201cwall\u201d between those business dealings and his official position.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\" style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"aligncenter\"><figcaption>Devon Archer, a former business\u200d associate of Hunter Biden, gets into an elevator as he arrives for closed-door testimony with the House Oversight Committee at the O&#8217;Neill House Office Building in\u200c Washington on July 31, 2023.
