Grisham in gun carry suspension lawsuits.\">public health emergency order suspending open<\/a> and concealed carry of\u2062 firearms in Albuquerque and surrounding counties.<\/p>\n<p>In \u200da letter\u2063 to Gov.\u200c Michelle Lujan \u2062Grisham \u2063(D-NM), Torrez expressed his \u2064concerns about the\u2064 ban, echoing the sentiments of\u200b lawmakers and law enforcement\u200d from both parties. He \u200cfirmly believes that the\u2062 ban \u2063infringes\u200d upon the constitutional rights of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-sheriffs-tell-newsom-they-wont-enforce-covid-curfew\/\" title=\"California Sheriffs Tell Newsom They Won't Enforce COVID Curfew\">law-abiding citizens<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThough\u2062 I recognize \u200cmy statutory obligation as New\u200d Mexico\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/top-democrat-senator-urges-biden-to-reverse-on-keystone-pipeline-14-ags-threaten-legal-action\/\" title=\"Top Democrat Senator Urges Biden To Reverse On Keystone Pipeline, 14 AGs Threaten Legal Action\">chief legal officer<\/a> to defend state officials\u200b when they are sued in their official capacity, my duty to uphold and defend the constitutional rights of every citizen takes precedence,\u201d Torrez wrote. \u201cSimply put, I\u2062 do not believe that \u2062the Emergency\u200d Order will \u200dhave any meaningful impact on public safety but, more importantly, I do not believe it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/6-takeaways-from-the-supreme-court-decision-protecting-americans-right-to-self-defense\/\" title=\"6 Takeaways From The Supreme Court Decision Protecting Americans\u2019 Right To Self-Defense\">passes constitutional muster<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While acknowledging\u200d his responsibilities as chief legal officer, Torrez expressed doubt about the effectiveness of the order in reducing gun violence in the \u2062community.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWhile I understand that frustration may have led you to undertake a unilateral approach to addressing the heart-wrenching challenge of gun violence \u200din our community, \u2063I urge you to \u200dreconsider this course of action,\u201d Torrez wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The lawsuits \u200bwill now be \u2063decided by federal judges, who will determine the next steps and schedule hearings. Several cases have already been filed, including those from the\u2064 National Association for Gun Rights, Gun Owners of America, the Patriots USA, \u200cand a Bernalillo County resident named Shawn Blas. More\u200d lawsuits are expected to follow.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-day ban in\u200d and around Albuquerque has faced criticism from both sides of\u200c the \u200baisle.
