That figure includes 58 percent of independents and\u200b 42 percent of Democrats. In total, 36 \u2064percent of \u200cthe state&#8217;s voters say they &#8220;strongly&#8221; oppose Murphy&#8217;s\u200c proposal, compared with just 33 percent \u200bwho \u2064support it.<\/p>\n<p>The poll\u2062 comes\u2062 as prominent Democrats advance plans at both the federal\u2062 and state levels to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/even-blue-state-voters-oppose-a-ban-on-new-gas-powered-cars-poll-shows\/\" title=\"Poll: Blue-State Voters Oppose Ban on New Gas-Powered Cars\">ensure electric vehicle adoption<\/a>. President Joe\u200d Biden&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/complete-transformation-new-biden-rule-would-force-automakers-to-ditch-gas-sell-electric-vehicles\/\">Environmental Protection Agency<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/energy\/biden-wages-war-on-americas-favorite-vehicles-trucks\/\">National Highway Traffic Safety Administration<\/a> have both proposed rules that require automakers to \u200densure two-thirds of the\u2062 vehicles they sell are electric by 2032.\u200b Some blue states, however, are pushing harsher mandates\u2014in addition to\u200c New Jersey, California last year approved a measure that bans the sale of new gas-powered\u2064 cars\u2064 in\u2064 the state by 2035.<\/p>\n<p>Murphy, whose office did not return a request for comment,\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/energy\/california-of-the-east-coast-new-jersey-moves-to-ban-new-gas-powered-cars-by-2035\/\">unveiled<\/a> an identical proposal in July as\u200b part of his &#8220;Energy\u200c Master Plan,&#8221; saying the move delivers on his &#8220;promise to utilize\u2063 every tool at \u2063our disposal to\u2064 combat the intensifying climate crisis.&#8221; During his first\u2063 gubernatorial \u200bcampaign in\u200c 2017, the Democrat told\u200b former California governor Jerry Brown that he aspires to make New Jersey &#8220;the California of the East Coast.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The unpopularity of\u2063 Murphy&#8217;s proposal could impact his party come November, when the entirety of the state&#8217;s General Assembly seats are up for \u2063grabs. \u2063Fifty \u200dpercent\u200c of New Jersey voters say they are less likely to vote \u2064for a state legislator who supports Murphy&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/poll-american-voters-reject-bidens-climate-agenda-want-reliable-affordable-domestic-energy\/\" title=\"Poll: American Voters Reject Biden\u2019s Climate Agenda \u2013 Want Reliable, Affordable Domestic Energy\u00a0\">electric vehicle mandate<\/a>, compared with just 28 percent who say they are more likely, according to \u2062the poll.<\/p>\n<p>Murphy&#8217;s electric vehicle proposal is not the only source of green \u200benergy controversy in New Jersey. The Democrat also \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/energy\/biden-backed-new-jersey-wind-farm-will-raise-electric-bills-experts-say\/\">signed a bill<\/a> providing \u200cup to $1 \u200cbillion in taxpayer-funded subsidies \u2064to\u200d attract a foreign company, \u200cOrsted, to \u200dbuild a wind farm off the coast of\u2063 Atlantic City. Less than two months\u2062 after Murphy approved the subsidies, Orsted in September \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/energy\/democrats-wind-farms-projects-scrapped\/\">announced<\/a> it may need to scrap its U.S. \u2064projects due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/we-are-not-the-postal-service-jen-psaki-rebuffs-reporter-over-question-about-christmas-deliveries\/\" title=\"\u2018We Are Not The Postal Service\u2019: Jen Psaki Rebuffs Reporter Over Question About Christmas Deliveries\">supply chain problems<\/a> and other issues, which the company says may cause it \u2062to take a $2.3 billion hit to its American portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are \u2062willing to walk away from projects if we do\u2062 not see value creation \u2063that meets our criteria,&#8221; the company&#8217;s chief executive \u2062said on a\u2062 call.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond New Jersey, American consumers are yet to \u2064embrace electric\u2064 cars, despite billions of dollars in spending from Biden to spur their \u2064adoption. Less than one-fifth of Americans say they&#8217;re very likely to make their next vehicle an electric one, according to an Associated Press poll published in April, with most citing the high\u200c costs\u200b associated with the \u2064vehicles. New Jerseyans who took the Public Opinion\u200c Strategies \u200cpoll cited similar concerns.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is unfair to create regulations that would create financial\u2064 stress for thousands of people,&#8221; one respondent said. &#8220;People spend four hundred dollars on cars that barely work just to get their children to\u200b school. \u200dThis would really impact thousands of \u200bpeople negatively.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over 40% of Democrats and almost 60% of independents in New Jersey, a predominantly blue state, are against Governor Phil Murphy&#8217;s proposal to prohibit the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035.
