The first of the promised detox centers just opened in \u200cAugust.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And,\u200c an Oregon Health Authority (OHA) audit found that just\u200d 1 percent of people who were cited for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/poll-says-support-for-oregons-drug-decriminalization-is-imploding\/\" title=\"Poll shows declining support for Oregon's drug decriminalization.\">possessing controlled substances sought treatment<\/a> \u2062using a\u2063 new\u200b hotline\u2063 created as part of the measure. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now the state is grappling\u200c with an \u2063opioid crisis and increased homelessness, both of which critics \u2062contend\u2062 has been exacerbated by decriminalization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Substance abuse in the state has exploded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since 2020, Oregon\u2064 has \u2064experienced a 210 \u200cpercent increase in \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fentanyl-related-deaths-hit-rural-california-communities\/\" title=\"Fentanyl-Related Deaths Hit Rural California Communities\">fentanyl-related fatalities<\/a>, according to the OHA\u2019s \u2063Public Health Division.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overdoses in the state increased\u2064 between November 2021 and\u200b November 2022 by\u2062 nearly 4.58 percent, surpassing the national\u2064 average \u2062by \u200csevenfold, according to the Centers for\u2062 Disease Control and Prevention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many Oregonians\u2064 blame Measure 110, and most now\u200d want it\u200d repealed.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>The \u2062Survey Says<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An Emerson College poll \u2064of 1,000 registered Oregon voters found that 56 percent support \u2064a\u2064 complete repeal of Measure 110, while \u206464 percent believe parts should be \u2062repealed in order to bring \u2062back penalties for \u2062possession of small \u2064amounts of \u200chard\u2063 drugs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Commissioned by the Foundation\u200c for Drug Policy Solutions,\u2062 the poll \u2062surveyed registered Oregon \u2064voters \u201cto measure public attitudes towards \u200cMeasure 110.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It found that 41 percent of Oregon voters were more likely to vote for\u200c a lawmaker if they \u200dvoted to\u2063 repeal the measure, \u200dwhereas 33 percent said they\u2064 were \u2064less likely to vote for the lawmaker, and 25 \u2063percent said this would not \u2062impact how they \u2064vote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A \u2062majority of respondents also said Measure 110 increased\u2062 homelessness in their\u2064 communities,\u200b with 54 percent \u200creporting\u200b increased\u200b homelessness and 38 percent saying the\u200b measure had no \u2064impact on homelessness. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A majority of most\u200c racial groups\u2064 also supported a full repeal of Measure 110, including about 66 percent \u200dof \u200cHispanics or Latinos and African \u2064Americans alike \u200cand more \u200cthan 50 percent of White voters. Less\u200d than half of Asian American \u2064or Pacific\u2064 Islander voters\u200c surveyed were in favor\u200b of repeal, but nearly \u200b71 percent of multiracial voters wanted\u2063 Measure 110 reversed.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Cities and Counties Speak Out<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amidst a rising number of overdose cases, the city \u2062of Medford, \u200dOregon, and\u200d the Jackson County and Coos County \u2062Boards of Commissioners have recently called for the repeal of Measure 110. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In early September, the Portland City Council banned \u2064the use \u200bof hard drugs \u200bon \u200cpublic property. The\u2062 Clackamas County Board of\u2062 Commissioners will be asking voters next spring whether the measure should \u2064be\u2062 repealed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Medford \u200bCity \u200bCouncil \u200creleased a resolution\u2064 stating that rather \u200dthan reduce drug overdose deaths, Measure 110 has resulted in a significant increase\u2063 in overdoses. Tina Kotek signed\u2064 a \u2063law once \u200cagain criminalizing fentanyl. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the new law,\u00a0 possession of \u20631 to 5 grams \u200bof fentanyl, the deadliest drug in the state, \u2064is now a\u2062 misdemeanor charge.\u200d Possession of five to 24 pills is also now a misdemeanor that\u200b can carry \u200da <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/brownshirts-of-biden-and-fauci-pastor-maced-at-portland-prayer-rally-alleges-police-complicit-in-antifa-ambush\/\" title=\"\u2018Brownshirts Of Biden And Fauci\u2019: Pastor Maced At Portland Prayer Rally Alleges Police Complicit In Antifa Ambush\">year jail sentence<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two milligrams of\u200d fentanyl is enough \u2062to cause a \u200dfatal overdose, according to the Drug\u2063 Enforcement Administration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite the governor\u2019s\u2062 action, \u200bRep.\u200b Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-Ore.) pressed Ms. Kotek about the\u200c state\u2019s\u2063 approach to mitigating the fallout of \u200bMeasure 110. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThree years ago, \u200cour \u2063constituents voted for a\u2063 measure they were told would reduce drug abuse,\u201d Ms. Chavez-DeRemer \u2063wrote in \u200ba letter dated Sept.\u2064 7. \u201cInstead, drug abuse\u2063 has exploded, and our neighbors fighting addiction have been \u2063left to\u200c fend for themselves.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In her letter to Ms. Kotek, Ms. Chavez-DeRemer\u200b raised concerns that the measure\u2019s shortcomings have \u200dfailed the homeless population, which proponents of Measure 110 had \u2063said it would help.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAfter enabling the trafficking and use \u200bof deadly drugs, the state failed to provide the accessible\u200d health care that was promised. If we want to get serious about drug \u2063abuse \u200cin the unsheltered homeless community, we\u200d need to\u2062 increase restrictions \u2063for\u200c drug\u2064 access and ensure their health care is provided directly where they live,\u201d Ms. Chavez-DeRemer wrote. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Republican lawmaker advocated \u2064for qualified street medicine teams that would establish relationships with patients and provide \u201cdual-diagnosis care\u2063 right where the \u200bpatient lives.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The \u200dletter \u200dended with a series \u200dof\u2064 challenges for Ms. Kotek, including considering a ballot measure to repeal Measure\u200b 110, increasi<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>drugs and redirected funds towards addiction treatment.
