The \u200blawsuit was initiated by \u200dfive families from Albemarle County Public Schools after their children were subjected to a critical race\u200d theory pilot program that\u200b the district aimed to\u200b incorporate into\u200c all classes.<\/p>\n<h3>A Racist Policy at the Core<\/h3>\n<p>The lawsuit argues that the ongoing &#8220;anti-racism&#8221; \u200dpolicy in the county is fundamentally racist. According to Kate Anderson, Director of the Center \u200dfor Parental Rights and Senior Counsel \u200cat the Alliance Defending Freedom, \u200dthe policy teaches children that their skin color determines their achievements\u200b and privilege in life. Anderson further explains that children are\u2062 being made to believe that they are personally responsible for racism or too \u2063affected by it to succeed.<\/p>\n<p>One of \u2064the exercises \u200cimposed on the children involved lowering a finger\u2063 each time an\u200b example of their &#8220;privilege&#8221; \u2063was mentioned. They\u2062 were also required to write a &#8220;vision statement&#8221; on \u200bhow they would be more \u2062anti-racist.\u200c Anderson\u2064 argues that these activities promote the idea that silence is racism and that children must actively engage in anti-racist actions, aligning with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/liberals-please-grow-a-spine-and-say-no-to-child-gender-transition\/\" title=\"Liberals, Please Grow A Spine And Say No To Child Gender Transition\">critical theory ideology<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Multiple\u200d Violations Alleged<\/h3>\n<p>The parents and their children are alleging multiple violations of\u200b the \u200dFirst Amendment and parental \u2064rights, \u2062which they believe\u2062 contradict Virginia&#8217;s Constitution. They \u2063argue that children should not be forced to define themselves and their future based on their skin color. Additionally, parents were not allowed to opt their children out \u2063of the program, making \u200cit even more challenging to challenge the ideology being \u200cinfused into all aspects of learning.<\/p>\n<p>Religious freedom violations are also claimed, as children \u2063are being taught that their peers are fundamentally different based on their skin color, contradicting the\u2062 beliefs of Catholic families who believe\u200c in the equality of all individuals in the eyes of God. Another religious violation alleged is that children were taught that white\u2062 Christians are the privileged \u2063oppressors.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore,\u200c teachers were trained to treat children differently based on their race, including in grading, which raises concerns\u200d about equal protection under the law.<\/p>\n<h3>Positive Outlook on Appeal<\/h3>\n<p>The case was initially dismissed by the lower \u2064court due to procedural issues, with the court ruling\u2063 that the Virginia Constitution was not &#8220;self-executing.&#8221; However, the Alliance Defending Freedom \u200band the families involved are optimistic about the appeal, believing that citizens should be able to bring \u2062claims under the state \u2062constitution to protect their \u200dconstitutional rights.<\/p>\n<h3>A Program by Any Other \u200cName<\/h3>\n<p>The pilot program, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/virginia-parents-take-critical-race-theory-lawsuit-against-school-board-to-higher-court\/\" title=\"Virginia parents escalate critical race theory lawsuit against school board to higher court.\">heavily incorporates\u200b critical \u2062race theory<\/a>, was introduced at Henley\u200c Middle School in 2019.
