While \u200cthere \u200dis an exception for patients\u200d already on hormone treatments, the Transgender Center has chosen to stop\u200c offering hormone treatments \u2062to all patients due to the potential legal\u2062 liability it poses\u2062 for doctors.<\/p>\n<p>Washington University, affiliated with the hospital, expressed \u200btheir concerns, stating, \u200c&#8221;This legal claim creates unsustainable liability for health-care professionals\u200b and makes it untenable for us to continue to \u2062provide \u2062comprehensive transgender care for minor patients without subjecting\u2063 the university and our \u200dproviders to an \u200cunacceptable level of liability.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Despite the disappointment of having to \u2062take this step, the Transgender\u200c Center believes \u200cit is necessary to\u200c protect\u2063 the university and its providers from\u2063 potential \u2064lawsuits. The new\u2063 law sets\u200d the minimum liability at $500,000.<\/p>\n<h3>Whistleblower Allegations and Ongoing\u2062 Investigation<\/h3>\n<p>The decision \u200bby the\u2064 Transgender Center \u200ccomes\u200b after explosive whistleblower accusations against the gender clinic earlier this year. In \u2062February, Jamie Reed, \u200da former\u2063 case manager at the Transgender Center, bravely went public \u2064with \u200dallegations that the clinic had \u2064hastily put children with significant\u2062 psychiatric issues on gender hormone treatments. \u2063Reed also raised \u2064concerns about\u2063 the lack of awareness among \u200cchildren and their families regarding the\u2064 serious side effects of these treatments.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency\u200d room staff\u2063 at the\u2062 hospital also noticed a concerning trend. They reported a surge in\u2062 trans-identifying children \u2064showing up in psychiatric crisis, who \u2064were taking hormones but \u200dnot receiving the necessary counseling. \u200dThese alarming developments prompted Missouri&#8217;s \u200cRepublican attorney general to open \u2063an\u2064 investigation \u2063into \u2064the \u200dclinic, \u2063which is still \u2062ongoing.<\/p>\n<h3>Risks of Gender\u200b Hormone Treatments<\/h3>\n<p>Over the\u200c past\u2064 few\u2064 years, critics have \u200braised concerns about the permanent effects \u200dof gender hormone treatments \u200cand surgical procedures, particularly when it comes to children.
