Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil (WI-01) introduced the legislation earlier this week, touting it as \u201cthe \u2062most conservative election\u200d integrity bill to be considered in the House in the last 20 years.\u201d (Photo \u200bby Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>OAN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/taylor-tinsley\">Taylor\u200b Tinsley<\/a><br \/>10:56 AM\u2063 \u2013 Tuesday, September\u2062 12, 2023<\/p>\n<p>On Monday\u200d night, Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen urged the U.S. Supreme\u200b Court\u2062 to issue an emergency stay in\u200c a redistricting case over the state\u2019s\u2063 congressional map.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Wes-Allens-application-to-stay-Sept.-11-2023.pdf\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Wes-Allens-application-to-stay-Sept.-11-2023.pdf\">stay\u200b application<\/a> to Justice Clarence \u200dThomas, Allen argued \u201cAlabama will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/alabama-secretary-of-state-appeals-redistricting-case-to-u-s-supreme-court\/\" title=\"Alabama's Secretary of State takes redistricting case to U.S. Supreme Court.\">suffer irreparable\u200b harm absent<\/a> \u200cthis \u200cCourt\u2019s intervention, and\u2062 the balance of \u200charms and the public interest warrant \u200ca stay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Allen\u2019s request came shortly \u2063after a three-judge panel in Birmingham \u2064denied\u2063 his motion earlier on\u2063 Monday, \u200bto \u2062stay an order for a\u2064 special master\u2064 to submit three\u2063 new\u2063 redistricting maps for the 2024 election cycle by September 25<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2064 Supreme Court \u2064upheld a ruling in favor of \u2063Black voters \u2063from the\u200c federal \u200bcourt\u200b in June, \u2064that affirmed the \u200cstate\u2019s 2021 congressional map\u200d likely\u2064 violated the Voting Rights Act. <\/p>\n<p>The three-judge panel rejected the GOP-led state\u2019s congressional \u2064map last week and said the legislature didn\u2019t follow that ruling, which \u2062ordered them to draw a second\u200b majority-Black district.<\/p>\n<p>The judges said the\u2063 exact opposite of Allen and that implementing a stay\u2062 order would not \u2063serve in the public interest. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>After their ruling \u2062on Monday the judges wrote, \u201cWe repeat that we are deeply troubled that the State enacted a\u2064 map that the \u2062Secretary readily \u200badmits does not provide \u200cthe remedy\u200c we said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/court-illinois-must-forfeit-voter-roll-data-to-conservative-group\/\" title=\"Illinois Court Orders Voter Roll Data Forfeiture to Conservative Group\">federal\u200c law requires<\/a>. And we are disturbed by \u200bthe evidence that the \u200bState delayed remedial proceedings \u2064but\u200b did not even nurture the \u200bambition to provide\u200d that required remedy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In his motion to Justice Thomas, Allen wrote without a stay \u2064the state will\u200b have \u201cto cede its sovereign\u2063 redistricting power to a \u2064court that\u200b will intentionally \u2062segregate Alabamians based on race.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Stay informed!
