The sheriff, echoing the\u2062 state&#8217;s attorney\u200c general, argued that the move was unconstitutional. However, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/very-volatile-moment-newsom-slashes-budget-after-turning-98-billion-surplus-into-22-5-billion-deficit-in-single-year\/\" title=\"\u2018Very Volatile Moment\u2019: Newsom Slashes Budget After Turning  Billion Surplus Into .5 Billion Deficit in Single Year\">governor dismissed<\/a> his\u200b concerns, stating, &#8220;It&#8217;s not for police to tell me what&#8217;s \u2064constitutional or \u2063not.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Sheriff Stands Firm on Constitutional Grounds<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sheriff Allen, from \u2064Bernalillo \u200dCounty, made his position clear: &#8220;The \u2064Bernalillo County Sheriff&#8217;s \u200bOffice will not enforce this segment of the \u2063order. While\u200c I\u2064 understand the urgency, the \u2062temporary\u2062 ban \u200dchallenges the\u200c foundations of our Constitution.\u2062 But most importantly, it\u200d is \u2062unconstitutional.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>A Clash \u2063of Views<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">During an interview with CNN&#8217;s \u2063Poppy Harlow, Governor Grisham \u2064expressed her frustration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dem-house-committee-chairman-blasts-biden-for-dragging-feet-on-defense-budget\/\" title=\"Dem House Committee Chairman Blasts Biden For \u2018Dragging Feet\u2019 on Defense Budget\">law enforcement&#8217;<\/a>s opposition \u200bto her order. She snapped, &#8220;It&#8217;s not for police to tell me what&#8217;s constitutional \u200cor not. Responding To 10+ Homeless Tent Fires A Day\">universal background checks<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Harlow, pointing out that Grisham is an attorney, questioned \u2064the\u200b governor&#8217;s confidence in the constitutionality of her order. Grisham responded defiantly, \u200b&#8221;Well, we&#8217;re going to see. I mean, look, I wouldn&#8217;t do it if I didn&#8217;t\u200d think I had the right. I have the right.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Constitutional Grounds Challenged<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Harlow pressed further,\u200b citing Article\u200d 2, Section 6 of the New Mexico constitution, \u200dwhich protects the right to bear arms. She argued \u200dthat the governor&#8217;s order may violate both the U.S. Constitution and \u2063the state&#8217;s constitution. Grisham dismissed \u2062the concern, stating, &#8220;I don&#8217;t believe that we \u2064are. And if that narrow reading of the \u200dconstitution, \u2063which has\u2064 been tested\u2063 in the state, we\u200b wouldn&#8217;t have universal background checks, we wouldn&#8217;t have a waiting\u200b period, we wouldn&#8217;t have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/protesters-defend-protests-say-protection-around-capitol-building-was-inadequate\/\" title=\"Protesters defend protests, say protection around Capitol building was inadequate\">red flag law<\/a>,\u2063 we wouldn&#8217;t \u200bhave prohibitions\u2064 for straw\u2062 purchases.\u200c None of those would \u200bhave been deemed constitutional. And \u200dtoday all of them \u200care.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Harlow reminded Grisham that \u2063these laws were established before the Supreme Court ruling. \u200cHowever,\u2063 the governor\u200c argued that they haven&#8217;t \u200bbeen tested again.<\/p>\n<h3>A \u2062Battle for Rights<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">As the debate continued, Harlow questioned \u200bthe\u2062 governor&#8217;s \u2062intentions.
