In that population, the\u2063 protection started at 67\u2062 percent before dropping to 53 percent in the middle time \u200bperiod and 28 \u2063percent beyond 120 days.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">The numbers were from September\u2062 2022 through August 2023. They were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/epochtv\/cdc-advisory-committee-on-immunization-practices-meet-on-covid-19-and-vaccines-5489951\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">presented<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/acip\/meetings\/downloads\/slides-2023-09-12\/05-COVID-Link-Gelles-508.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) to the CDC&#8217;s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.<\/div>\n<p>For adults with one or more\u2062 conditions that have compromised their \u200bimmune systems, the protection from a bivalent shot\u200c against\u2064 hospitalization started at 31 percent. It increased to 40 percent between 60 and 119 days.\u2064 It dropped to 12 percent\u2064 beyond 120 \u2062days.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">The VISION network comprises \u200bsites in 11 states with clinical, laboratory, \u200band vaccination records. The sites include\u200d the Regenstrief Institute in \u2062Indiana and the University of Colorado, Denver.<\/div>\n<h2>Other Numbers<\/h2>\n<p>Data from another CDC-run network, the Investigating Respiratory Viruses in\u2064 the Acutely Ill (IVY), also showed protection from the bivalent shots \u200bagainst hospitalization quickly waned.<\/p>\n<p>Among immunocompetent adults aged 18 to 64, the protection\u2063 from\u200d the old doses was just 20 percent. A bivalent \u200dbooster increased\u2062 that to 43 percent, but beyond \u206390 days the shielding dropped to 17 percent.<\/p>\n<p>For immunocompetent adults aged 65 and older, the protection from monovalent doses\u2064 was registered at just\u2062 1 percent. A bivalent booster upped the protection\u200c to 53 percent, but the protection plummeted to \u200b10 percent beyond 90 days.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 protection remained\u200d higher in immunocompromised adults, starting at 55 percent initially after a bivalent and \u2062hitting 43 percent beyond 90 days.<\/p>\n<p>The numbers were for Sept. 8, 2022, to \u2064May 31, \u200b2023.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">The IVY network \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/flu\/vaccines-work\/ivy.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">features<\/a> 25 sites, including the University of Miami \u200cMedical Center \u200dand the Cleveland Clinic.<\/div>\n<p>VISION data for young\u2063 children, meanwhile, found that the protection from\u2063 the old shots against\u200d emergency\u200d room and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bivalent-booster-protection-against-hospitalization-drops-to-near-zero-cdc-data\/\" title=\"CDC data shows that the effectiveness of bivalent booster protection against hospitalization has significantly decreased to almost zero.\">urgent care\u2063 visits\u2064 dropped<\/a> \u2064to 24\u2063 percent \u2062beyond\u2063 60 days of a Moderna vaccination and 16 \u2062percent beyond 60 days of a\u200d Pfizer vaccination.<\/p>\n<p>A bivalent dose\u2063 increased the protection to 61 percent after 14 days. \u2063No longer-term data were \u2064provided for the \u2063children, who were aged 6 months to 5 years.<\/p>\n<p>Those numbers \u2064were \u2063for Dec. 24, \u200b2022, to June 17, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The effectiveness estimates \u2062showed waning,\u2063 the CDC&#8217;s Dr. Ruth Link-Gelles said, but should be interpreted as finding\u200c an &#8220;incremental \u200bbenefit&#8221; in a population &#8220;with a \u200chigh prevalence \u200dof <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/most-americans-have-been-infected-with-covid-19-even-if-they-didnt-know-it-new-cdc-study-finds\/\" title=\"Most Americans Have Been Infected With COVID-19, Even If They Didn\u2019t Know It, New CDC Study Finds\">infection-induced immunity<\/a>.&#8221; She also said pointed to low bivalent\u2062 uptake among younger adults and that confidence intervals were wide \u2064for some of the estimates.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The vast majority of persons of all\u200b ages have \u2062had \u200dCOVID infection but having an updated COVID vaccine provides additional protection,&#8221; Dr. Sarah\u2062 Long, \u200ba CDC adviser, said after \u2064hearing the presentation.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">CDC data presented at\u200b the last Advisory \u200dCommittee on Immunization Practices <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/health\/covid-vaccinated-more-likely-to-be-hospitalized-cdc-data-5335428\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">estimated<\/a> protection from the bivalent shots turned negative over time.<\/div>\n<h2>New Vaccines<\/h2>\n<p>The bivalent shots were cleared and recommended by the CDC\u200d in \u200cthe fall of 2022, based on animal testing. The \u200bshots later replaced\u2063 the original shots, which targeted the Wuhan strain.<\/p>\n<p>The bivalent vaccines contain\u200c components of the Wuhan and Omicron variants.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">Tuesday&#8217;s meeting was arranged for CDC advisers to discuss which populations should receive the \u200bnext round of\u200c shots, which were \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/article\/fda-authorizes-new-covid-19-vaccines-in-bid-to-counter-waning-effectiveness-5487196\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">approved and authorized<\/a> by the\u200c U.S. Food and Drug Administration\u2062 (FDA) on Monday.<\/div>\n<p>The FDA decides whether to clear vaccines while the\u200c CDC determines which populations should receive \u2062them.<\/p>\n<p>The FDA\u200b said in memorandums detailing the decision\u200c that &#8220;there appears to be an inverse relationship between the time since vaccination and vaccine\u200d effectiveness, such that bivalent COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness against Omicron sublineages appears\u2064 to wane over time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">The new shots target XBB.1.5, an Omicron\u200d subvariant.
