Taken together these allegations paint a picture\u200c of a culture of corruption,\u201d \u2063Mr. McCarthy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday I am directing our house committee to open a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-on-cuomo-allegations-we-should-see-what-investigation-brings-us\/\" title=\"Biden on Cuomo Allegations: We should see what investigation brings us\">formal impeachment inquiry<\/a> into\u200b President Joe Biden. He vowed to hold a vote to open impeachment,\u2062 now he flip-flopped because he doesn&#8217;t have support.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy&#8217;s announcement marks the second time \u200cthat an impeachment inquiry has\u200b been launched in connection to the business dealings of Hunter Biden. The \u2062first impeachment of President Donald Trump revolved around his request \u2063to Ukrainian President Volodymyr\u200b Zelensky to look into Hunter Biden&#8217;s work for a Ukrainian gas giant, Burisma. The Senate exonerated Trump of all charges.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200d House Oversight Committee \u2064has an ongoing investigation into the Biden family and their alleged foreign business schemes. Committee\u200c Chairman James Comer \u2062(R-Ky.) said\u2064 on Sept.\u2063 7 that emails from \u200cthe National Archives \u200dand Records Administration (NARA) were the &#8220;final \u200bstraw&#8221; that \u2064would generate\u200b enough\u200d votes\u2064 in the House to \u2064open an investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The agency admitted in August that it held a large number of emails reportedly sent by President Joe Biden\u200b under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-could-vote-on-biden-impeachment-inquiry-this-month-after-shoring-up-support-rep-comer\/\" title=\"House may vote on Biden impeachment inquiry soon: Rep. Comer\">pseudonymous email accounts<\/a> while he was vice president,\u200d according to the conservative nonprofit Southeastern Legal Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The group filed a lawsuit against NARA, compelling the agency to hand over the roughly 5,400 emails potentially linked to the fake \u200bemail\u200d accounts which were allegedly\u200c sent under three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-launch-impeachment-inquiry-of-president-joe-biden\/\" title=\"House Republicans initiate impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden.\">personal pseudonymous email \u2062accounts<\/a>: \u2062Robin Ware, Robert L. Peters, and JRB Ware.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for NARA declined to comment on the alleged emails when contacted by The \u2062Epoch Times at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. McCarthy\u2019s announcement came on the day the \u200bHouse resumed session following a nearly seven-week summer break. It is also 19 days from a government shutdown if the House and Senate cannot pass the 12\u200b required appropriations bills to \u200cfund operations beyond \u200cSept. 30, the end of \u2063the fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. McCarthy alleged that President Biden lied\u2063 to the American people about his knowledge of his family&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-calls-travel-lid-for-wednesday-an-hour-after-bobulinski-interview-airs\/\" title=\"Biden Calls Travel Lid for Wednesday an Hour After Bobulinski Interview Airs\">foreign business dealings<\/a>. The speaker said that witnesses have\u200b testified that President Biden joined a number of phone calls and \u2063had \u2062other interactions that resulted \u200din the flow of millions of dollars into the business accounts of Hunter Biden and \u2062his business partners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that \u200dbank records show that\u2063 nearly $20 million in payments were directed to \u2062the Biden family members\u2062 and associates through various shell companies. The \u200dTreasury Department alone has more than 150 transactions involving the\u200d Biden family and other business associates that were flagged as suspicious activity by U.S. banks,\u201d \u2063Mr. McCarthy said, adding that an FBI informant has alleged that a bribe was made to the Biden family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite the serious allegations, it appears that the president&#8217;s family has been offered special treatment by Biden&#8217;s own administration, treatment that\u200c not otherwise would have received if they were not \u2063related to the President,\u201d Mr. \u200dMcCarthy \u200csaid. \u201cThese \u200dare allegations of abuse of \u2064power obstruction and corruption. \u2062And they warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sen.\u2064 Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) criticized\u200d the announcement, calling it &#8220;politics on steroids.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"aligncenter\"><figcaption>U.S. President Joe \u200bBiden and First Lady Jill Biden depart the \u2064White House in Washington en route to Florida on Sept. 2, 2023. \u2063(Anna Rose Layden\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s no substance to this,&#8221; Ms. Warren said. &#8220;This is all about speaker McCarthy bowing down to a handful of extremists who will \u2064cost him his job if he doesn&#8217;t get just as wild and out there as\u200b they already are.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jon Tester \u200b(D-Mont.) declined to criticize the investigation. Asked whether Mr. McCarthy\u2019s decision to open the impeachment inquiry was appropriate, Mr. Tester told The Epoch Times, \u2064\u201cThat\u2019s his call.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. McCarthy is facing pressure from hardliners in his own party over both spending cuts and the investigation into President Biden.<\/p>\n<p>The federal government will shut down nonessential services if a\u200c 2024 funding agreement cannot be reached by Sept. 30, \u2064the end of the fiscal year.
