Andy Beshear, but Republican Daniel Cameron has been a \u2064popular state attorney general and is within closing distance for the Nov. 7 election.\n  <\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mr.\u2062 Beshear, 45, was elected to a first term \u200din 2019. He defeated Republican Matt Bevin, who had struggled to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/analysis-republicans-look-to-flip-2-governorships-in-2023-contests\/\" title=\"Republicans aim to win 2 governorships in 2023 races.\">overcome low approval ratings<\/a> after signing a bill reforming teacher pensions. Mr. Beshear is\u2062 the son of former Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The younger Beshear is running on his \u200brecord in handling crises, including the \u200bCOVID-19 \u200dpandemic and natural disasters. Eastern Kentucky was devastated \u200dby flooding in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve been through a lot these past four years, and some days have been\u2063 tougher than others, but I will always show \u200bup to help the people \u2062of \u2063Kentucky,\u201d he \u200csaid in a campaign ad, touting his achievements in creating job growth, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dont-look-to-california-for-healthcare-reform\/\" title=\"Don\u2019t Look To California For Healthcare Reform\">providing clean drinking water<\/a>, and bringing aid in the wake of disaster.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Beshear\u2019s positions in support of abortion \u2062and same-sex marriage put him at odds with the views of nearly 60 percent of \u200cadults in socially conservative Kentucky, according \u200bto data from Pew Research.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Cameron, the GOP challenger, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-ag-calls-for-investigation-into-cuomo-harassment-claims-with-subpoena-power\/\" title=\"New York AG Calls For Investigation Into Cuomo Harassment Claims With Subpoena Power\">elected attorney general<\/a> in 2019 with 58 percent of the vote. The next year, he \u2063gained national attention for his\u200b involvement in the case of Breonna\u200b Taylor, a Louisville woman who was killed by police after they entered her apartment \u200bin a &#8220;no knock&#8221; raid to execute a search warrant.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron speaks to reporters in Washington on Oct. 12, 2021. President Donald Trump has endorsed Mr.\u2064 Cameron.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    \u2063 Mr. Beshear has led by\u200b an average of 6.2\u2064 percentage \u200dpoints in\u200d polls \u2062over the summer, though the most recent polls show him with a 9-point lead.<br \/>\n \u200b<\/p>\n<h2>Louisiana<\/h2>\n<p>    In Louisiana, Republican Jeff Landry is widely expected to defeat Democrat Shawn Wilson, flipping\u2063 the statehouse back to red after Democrat Gov. John Bel\u2064 Edwards, who is constitutionally prohibited from seeking a third term, leaves office next year.\n  <\/p><\/div>\n<p>Republicans hold\u200d a supermajority\u200d in both houses of the Louisiana Legislature, and the state has supported GOP candidates\u200c for president in all\u200d but four contests since \u20641956. However, the governor\u2019s mansion has traded hands consistently \u200dsince the mid-1990s.<\/p>\n<p>Mr.\u200c Landry, 52, was a one-term congressman, losing \u2062reelection after his district merged with\u2064 another following\u200c the 2010 census. He was elected attorney general of Louisiana in 2015 and reelected in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Landry\u200b is running\u200b on a pro-life, family, and law and order platform. He is one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/states-warn-blackrock-to-stop-pushing-political-agenda\/\" title=\"States Warn BlackRock to Stop Pushing Political Agenda\">19 state attorneys general<\/a> who signed a letter to the Biden\u200c administration in July saying they need access to information about residents who obtain abortions \u2063and minors who undergo gender-reassignment procedures \u200bin \u2064other states. He has\u200c been endorsed by President Trump and the Family Research Council and has received a 100 percent rating \u2063from \u2063the National Rifle Association.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Crime was the No. 1 issue on the voters\u2019 minds here in Louisiana,\u201d\u200c Mr. Landry said in a May campaign ad. \u201cI \u200bdon\u2019t need any more statistics other than that. That\u2019s real people seeing real things and having real crime affect them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Wilson, 54, holds a doctorate\u2063 in public policy from Southern University \u200band served various roles in Democrat administrations\u200c until being named Louisiana\u2019s secretary of transportation in 2016. (Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>He is running on a\u2064 platform of kitchen-table issues including the economy, education, and health care and has stressed his ability to \u2063work in a bipartisan \u200dmanner to get things done.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Landry leads Mr. Wilson by 18 percentage points.<\/p>\n<p>In Louisiana, all candidates, regardless of\u2064 party, are listed on the\u200d same ballot in the primary\u2062 election.\u200c Any candidate\u2063 who wins a majority\u2064 of the vote is elected. If no candidate \u200dwins a \u2064majority, a runoff election is held between \u2062the top two primary candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Sixteen candidates will appear on\u2062 the ballot for the primary \u200don Oct. 14. A runoff \u2062election, if needed, will be held on Nov. 18.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    \u200d   \u200d The governorship has been won in the primary contest four times in the last 40 years, three times by \u2064a Republican\u200b and once by a Democrat.<\/p>\n<h2>Mississippi<\/h2>\n<p>    Mississippi\u2019s Republican Gov.
