A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-mexico-sheriff-defies-governors-emergency-gun-ban-order\/\" title=\"NM Sheriff Defies Gov's Gun Ban Order\">gun rights group filed<\/a> a federal lawsuit within 24 \u2063hours seeking an immediate court order to\u2062 block the \u200corder \u200cfrom taking effect.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mr.\u00a0Allen on Monday\u2064 alluded \u2063again to public concerns \u200dhe expressed about putting deputies at risk\u2064 if they sought to arrest people\u2064 with guns.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI do \u2062not want to have political violence\u200b towards my\u2062 deputies or \u2063here in Bernalillo\u200c County,\u201d he said. \u201cI have enough violence here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The \u2064temporary ban challenges the foundations of our Constitution, but\u200d most importantly, it is unconstitutional. My oath was to protect the Constitution, and that is what I will do,&#8221; \u2064the sheriff \u200bremarked.<\/p>\n<p>Other reasons he provided for not upholding the executive\u200d order included a personal story involving his brother-in-law.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Last week, as I&#8217;m sitting here as the sitting sheriff, I get a phone call \u200dthat my \u2062brother also was a victim of gun violence last week that\u2062 many of you do \u2064not know,&#8221; Mr.\u2063 Allen said. &#8220;While \u200dhe and my nephew were sitting in \u2064their\u2062 car, they \u2062were shot at and their vehicle was impacted by numerous rounds.\u2063 How can\u200d I, as a sheriff, tell\u2063 him to put his firearms away and not be\u2064 able to protect himself?&#8221;<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>A gun\u200b store employee shows a customer an AR-style weapon\u200d at Lawful Defense \u2062in Gainesville, Fla., on\u200b April 19, 2023. \u2063(Nanette Holt\/The Epoch Times)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The governor, who \u2063was meeting \u2063with top law\u2064 enforcement officials on Friday, told the sheriff and other officials details of her plan just moments \u2064before\u2063 her\u2062 news conference, Mr. Allen\u2063 said.
