The ruling was based on alleged violations of the Voting Rights Act.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the Supreme Court had affirmed a federal court ruling that required Republicans to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nh-dem-blasts-pelosi-voting-reform-bill\/\" title=\"NH Dem Blasts Pelosi Voting Reform Bill\">redraw congressional districts<\/a>, making at least two of Alabama&#8217;s seven <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/alabama-redistricting-fight-state-appeals-to-supreme-court-to-avoid-special-master\/\" title=\"Alabama appeals to Supreme Court to avoid special master in redistricting dispute.\">districts majority \u2064black districts<\/a>. These districts tend to \u2062vote overwhelmingly Democratic.\u200d However, the redrawing of the map, which resulted in one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-republicans-approve-new-congressional-map-that-they-hope-will-blunt-democratic-gains\/\" title=\"Texas Republicans Approve New Congressional Map That They Hope Will Blunt Democratic Gains\">black-majority district<\/a> and another plurality-black district, has been accused of violating the 1965 Voting Rights Act.<\/p>\n<h3>Alabama Officials \u2064Continue Legal Battle<\/h3>\n<p>Alabama \u200bofficials \u2062are once again seeking relief \u200cfrom the Supreme Court\u2062 after a three-judge panel declared the new map biased against black voters and ordered it to be redrawn.<\/p>\n<p>In their court filing,\u2063 Alabama officials argued for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/appeals-court-blocks-january-6-committee-access-to-trump-white-house-documents\/\" title=\"Appeals Court Blocks January 6 Committee Access To Trump White House Documents\">stay pending appeal<\/a>, stating that there is a reasonable probability that the Supreme Court will consider the issue meritorious enough to grant certiorari or note probable jurisdiction. They also\u200b believe there is a fair prospect that a majority of the Court will vote to reverse the lower court&#8217;s order, and that denying a stay would result in irreparable harm.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The State and its voters should have the opportunity for this Court&#8217;s review before being sorted into race-based districts that disregard all districting principles in pursuit of super-proportionality,&#8221; the filing added.<\/p>\n<p>Alabama officials have previously contended that they are meeting the criteria of the Voting Rights \u200dAct, with one plan for the second district having a 40% black population, an increase from the \u2063previous 30%.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We believe it does\u2064 meet the Voting Rights Act standard because\u200b we followed \u2064all\u200d the \u200cguidelines,&#8221; said state Sen. Steve Livingston, a Republican. &#8220;As an opportunity district, nobody knows what the definition of opportunity is. They didn&#8217;t give us a definition.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Republican \u200cstate \u2062Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Reed \u2062expressed confidence in the process, stating, &#8220;I think we&#8217;re doing exactly \u2063what we&#8217;re supposed\u200c to do, our job, \u2062which is to put all the\u2062 ideas on the table, both chambers engaged\u2062 completely, and then we&#8217;ll move\u2063 forward to see where\u2063 things go.
