However, Wisconsin\u200c law allows children \u200caged 16 and older to work in planing mills\u200b like the one at Florence Hardwoods. Planing mills are the final processing sites for lumber.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the investigation found that\u200c seven child\u200d employees, aged 14 to 17, had worked outside of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/two-10-year-old-workers-discovered-in-mcdonalds\/\" title=\"Two 10-year-olds found working at McDonald's.\">legally permitted hours<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Department \u200cof Labor filed \u2063a civil lawsuit against\u200b Florence Hardwoods, but a consent\u200b decree had already been reached\u2064 between the agency \u2064and the sawmill&#8217;s attorneys in\u200c late August.\u2063 The settlement was approved by U.S. District Judge William Griesbach.<\/p>\n<p>Under\u200c the terms\u200c of \u200cthe agreement, Florence Hardwoods \u200cwill pay approximately $191,000 to the\u200b labor department. Employees\u2062 within\u2063 that age range\u200d must\u2064 be treated as\u200d apprentices or student learners,\u2063 with \u2062limited exposure to dangerous tasks and under\u200b the supervision of experienced workers.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore,\u2063 Florence Hardwoods\u200c will be required to label all\u2064 dangerous equipment with warning stickers and display signs visible from 10\u200d feet away, indicating\u200c that individuals under 18 are not allowed in the sawmill and planer mill \u200bareas.
