Lou Correa\u2063 (D-Calif.) credited President \u200bJoe Biden with\u200c making\u200b the right call by\u200d attending\u200b the Group of 20 (G20) summit in \u200bIndia over the weekend, saying the president&#8217;s actions send a key message\u200b about the U.S. role in the Indo-Pacific region.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;President Biden did the right thing by\u200b showing up and showing that we are leaders\u2064 in the world today, leaders for peace, leaders for democracy, leaders for freedom.\u200c And so I&#8217;m glad President Biden was there,&#8221; Mr. Correa said in an interview with NTD News&#8217; &#8220;Capitol Report&#8221; on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>President Biden&#8217;s\u2063 visit to\u2063 the Indo-Pacific region comes at a time of increased competition between \u200cthe United States and\u200c China&#8217;s\u200c communist\u200c regime. While President Biden attended the G20 \u200csummit in India, his Chinese counterpart Xi\u200c Jinping skipped the event, leaving the\u2062 U.S. president with an opportunity to \u2062<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rep-lou-correa-says-bidens-visits-to-india-vietnam-are-key-for-shaping-us-relations-in-indo-pacific\/\" title=\"Rep. While China\u2064 is currently\u2062 positioned as the\u2063 world&#8217;s second-largest economy, the congressman \u2062noted that India and Vietnam represent two \u200cother major economies in the region.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    &#8220;India\u200b is now\u2062 the fifth largest\u2062 economy \u200din the world, and Vietnam is also\u200b exploding in terms of economic activity,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And their central role in the\u200b area, economically, \u200bgeographically, is very central \u2062and very key.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Biden&#8217;s Vietnam\u2062 Visit<\/h2>\n<p>    \u200c   While the United \u2062States \u2063is at odds with China\u2062 and \u2063its ruling\u2062 Chinese Communist Party (CCP), that is not preventing President Biden from forging relationships with other communist nations. Following the G20 summit, the \u200bpresident \u200dflew to Hanoi, Vietnam, where he met with Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.\n  <\/p><\/div>\n<p>When asked about the optics of \u2064President Biden \u2063forging ties with one communist one<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/horowitz-fighting-to-win\/\" title=\"HOROWITZ: Fighting To Win\">-party state<\/a> over\u200b another,\u2064 Mr. Correa noted that China and Vietnam have historically been\u2062 at odds and are not necessarily politically aligned.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Not all\u200c communism is the same. A\u200c 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/reports\/2022-country-reports-on-human-rights-practices\/vietnam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> by\u200c the U.S. State Department lists a range\u200d of concerns, including arbitrary\u200b killings and political imprisonments by the\u200d Vietnamese government, restrictions on \u200cthe freedom of the\u2064 press and the overall\u2064 inability of citizens &#8220;to \u2064change their \u2063government peacefully through free and fair \u2062elections.&#8221;<br \/>\n \u200c\n  <\/div>\n<p>Mr. Correa said strengthening relations between the United States and Vietnam may \u200bnot be a bad choice, provided \u200dPresident \u200dBiden is\u2063 willing to\u200b still hold the Vietnamese government\u2064 accountable across a range of human\u2062 rights \u200dissues.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For President Biden to go there to visit Vietnam is\u200c a good step, provided\u2014provided\u2014that he \u2062emphasizes to Vietnam that we have to work on human rights and \u200dreligious freedom,&#8221;\u200c Mr.\u200c Correa said. &#8220;Vietnam is a great country, but they also have to respect \u200chuman rights.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Correa said he would\u2063 work with the\u200b Biden administration to ensure \u200bthat it continues to push Vietnam to \u2062improve its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/saudi-court-jails-womens-rights-activist-posing-challenge-for-biden\/\" title=\"Saudi court jails women\u2019s rights activist, posing challenge for Biden\">human rights record<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>    \u2063  &#8220;We&#8217;ve got to do it. \u2064We can&#8217;t make the\u2062 same \u2064mistakes that\u2064 we made in the past, which is just look\u2062 at \u200dthe military, the economic side. No, we have\u2063 to look at the human aspects \u200dof these\u2063 relationships going forward,&#8221; he said.<br \/>\n  \u200d<\/p>\n<h2>22nd Anniversary of \u20629\/11<\/h2>\n<p>    President Biden&#8217;s attendance at the G20 summit \u200band his visit\u200b to Vietnam came just days before the 22nd anniversary of the 9\/11 terrorist attacks. The White House \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2023\/08\/28\/statement-by-press-secretary-karine-jean-pierre-on-president-bidens-travel-to-vietnam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> the president would stop in \u2064Alaska\u200d on \u200chis way back \u200cfrom the G20\u2063 summit, and wo\n  <\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
