min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>When Owens spoke with Hunter and his longtime business partner, Eric\u2063 Schwerin, about the CIC, a state-owned organization that oversees a portion of the Chinese government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-sanctions-pushed-iran-to-brink-of-bankruptcy\/\" title=\"US Sanctions Pushed Iran to Brink of Bankruptcy\">foreign exchange reserves<\/a>, \u200bshe was working as a special assistant for the United States-China Strategic\u2064 and Economic Dialogue at the Treasury Department.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Schwerin was president of Hunter\u2019s now-defunct Rosemont Seneca Advisors, which was wooing the CIC for new investments.<\/p>\n<p>Several weeks prior, on April 12<sup>th<\/sup>, 2010, Owens sent Hunter and Schwerin an email with the itinerary of a CIC investment conference.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cFYI on recent\u2062 CIC investment conference at \u200ba resort in Sanya, on Hainan Island, over the weekend of March 27-28,\u201d Owens wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the Republican Senate report published in \u200bSeptember 2020, a Thornton Group press release dated that same \u200bday,\u2063 April 12<sup>th<\/sup>,\u00a0stated that the company\u2019s chairman, James Bulger, and Hunter visited Beijing just three days prior \u200band met with CIC Chief Investment Officer Gao Xiqing, among others.<\/p>\n<p>A piece on Owens, written by the Tower Hill \u200cBulletin and published months later, stated that she and\u2064 her team visited \u200cBeijing in May 2010 as part of a group led by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.<\/p>\n<p>The post included a picture of Owens getting a \u201csmall jade vase\u2063 as a \u200cbirthday\u2062 gift\u201d from Zhu Guangyao, China\u2019s vice minister \u200cof finance at the time.\u2064 The Chinese Communist Party\u2019s decisions and policies on public finance are to \u2063be implemented, according to the website of the Ministry of Finance.<\/p>\n<p>According to the story in the Bulletin, Zhu \u2062and Owens\u2019 team \u201cworked very closely during the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic \u2063Dialogue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A few weeks after arriving\u200b back in Beijing, Owens sent Schwerin an email with the subject line \u201cChina\u2019s CIC May Post Record \u200cYear for 2009 as Markets Recover,\u201d which Schwerin sent on July 23, 2010, to Hunter.<\/p>\n<p>On August 4, 2010,\u2062 Schwerin introduced Owens to Jack Casey through email after he claimed to have spoken with Casey earlier that day about \u200c\u201cGSEs and China.\u200c Casey is the vice \u200cchairman of Meridian Investments.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cJack,\u201d Schwerin wrote. \u201cGood seeing you at \u200dlunch today. Per our conversation regarding GSEs and China, I wanted to put you\u200b in\u2063 touch with Hunter\u2019s cousin, Casey Owens, who is at the Treasury Department and works on the Strategic Economic Dialogue.\u00a0I have cc:ed Casey on this email. Feel free to reach out \u2064to\u2063 her directly, she\u2019s expecting to hear from you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cJack, Happy to speak \u2064at your convenience,\u201d Owens responded after. \u200c\u201cBest, Casey.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The email was forwarded later on to Hunter as well, according to transcripts acquired by Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>An insider source \u200dwith knowledge\u2062 of Rosemont Seneca\u2019s interest in CIC \u200cclaimed that Owens was most likely providing information \u200cto the firm to boost their chances\u200d of persuading CIC to invest in \u200btheir fund customers. However, the source said that they were unaware of any agreements that the\u2063 business may have had with CIC.<\/p>\n<p>On March 8, 2011,\u2062 Schwerin emailed Hunter and Rosemont Seneca co-founder Devon \u200bArcher a list of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-niece-ex-u-s-treasury-employee-informed-hunter-on-chinese-sovereign-wealth-fund-during-obama-biden-admin\/\" title=\"Biden's niece, a former U.S. Treasury employee, advised Hunter on Chinese wealth fund during Obama-Biden admin.\">top state-owned sovereign wealth funds<\/a> as of the time, as well as their rankings, according to the Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute (SWFI).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s discuss today what else \u2063we can be doing to connect with these groups,\u201d Archer responded, adding that Rosemont Seneca was \u201calready working\u201d \u200bwith\u200b several funds on the list.<\/p>\n<p>Archer also added that he was planning a related\u2064 meeting in April with the CIC.  <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cCIC-\u200b scheduling meeting for April 21<sup>st<\/sup>,\u201d Archer said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Before she departed the Treasury\u2062 on May 10, 2011, \u2064Owens sent an email to auks@att.blackberry.net with the subject line \u201cUncle Joe\u201d \u200din\u2064 which \u200dshe discussed the \u200cvice president\u2019s statements from the opening session of the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic\u2062 Dialogue the day before.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cUncle Joe,\u201d Owens wrote. \u201cJust\u200b got home from work and couldn\u2019t wait to\u200b send you an email. \u2062Today was truly \u2062a memorable day for me. I keep\u2063 thinking about Mommom. Can you imagine\u2064 her \u2064seeing us huddled up\u2063 back\u2064 stage together? She would have loved\u2062 it. It chokes me \u2064up.\u00a0I have so much to learn! Sitting back \u2063there with you was very, \u2063very humbling. I was just\u00a0blown away. You ALWAYS\u200d make time to talk to me. Always. But today was really incredible. I still can\u2019t believe you took the time to discuss the issues with me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd your remarks,\u201d she continued. \u201cThat was really something \u2064else,\u2064 Uncle Joe. What a way to exit the Treasury.\u00a0I\u2019m almost\u2064 embarrassed \u2062by how deeply today has impacted me. I\u2019m simply happy to be close to you, and I just wanted to say thank you for including me. Love\u00a0Casey.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Later, the\u200b \u201cauks\u201d email account forwarded Owens\u2019 email\u2064 to\u200c Hunter, Beau\u2063 Biden, and Owens\u2019 mother Valerie \u200bBiden Owens.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cauks\u201d account can\u200d also be viewed in several email exchanges on Hunter\u2019s \u2062laptop, and many believe\u2062 that auks is another alias used by the then-vice president.
