Across \u200cracial lines, majorities of white, Latino, and Asian voters\u200d were against the policy. \u200cSeventy-six percent of\u200c the state&#8217;s \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/poll-black-voters-oppose-chain-migration-by-almost-two-to-one\/\" title=\"Poll: Black Voters Oppose Chain Migration by Almost Two to One\">black voters strongly<\/a> or somewhat \u200bfavored\u200d the idea.<\/p>\n<p>California passed a law in 2020 establishing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/harvard-docs-say-trillions-in-reparations-needed-to-address-covid\/\" title=\"Harvard Docs Say Trillions in Reparations Needed to Address COVID\">reparations task force<\/a> to \u2063study the matter. The panel, made up of several left-wing academics and policymakers, has since made a number of radical \u200crecommendations to the legislature.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2022, it <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/california-state-panel-recommends-free-health-care-child-support-forgiveness-for-black-residents\/\">recommended<\/a> that California institute cash reparations payments, forgive \u200doverdue\u2064 child \u200csupport\u200c that \u200bblack \u2064residents owe to the government, and put more\u200d trees in black neighborhoods for &#8220;shade equity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In May, the task force approved recommendations on reparations\u200c that would\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/california\/gavin-newsom-reparations-cost\/\">cost<\/a> a total of $800 million, 2.5 times more than the \u2064state&#8217;s \u200bannual budget. Only after Governor\u200c Gavin \u200cNewsom (D.) saw\u2062 the cost of the \u200dplan\u2014and after the state spent $2.5 million\u200b researching\u2062 it\u2014did he decline to endorse cash payments.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200b task force in June \u2064presented the \u200blegislature with its \u2063final, 1,100-page\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/california\/the-craziest-recommendations-from-californias-reparations-task-force\/\">report<\/a>,\u200b recommending that the state decriminalize public urination and let urinators sue if police attempt to\u200d stop them, prohibit police from pulling over drivers for traffic violations, and defund school police.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A recent poll by the University of California-Berkeley reveals that 59% of California voters, including white, Latino, and Asian voters, oppose providing cash reparations to descendants of slaves.
