Wade, however, failed to hang up after leaving the voicemail, so he ended up recording himself as he stabbed Haviland to \u200ddeath\u2063 in front of his \u200bmother.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant repeatedly\u2063 stabbed Carl Haviland not only \u2064in front of the defendant\u2019s own mother but did so in spite\u2062 of her efforts to physically prevent him from committing the crime,\u201d Clay \u200bCounty Superior \u200bCourt Judge Robert\u200b A. \u2064Pell wrote when sentencing Wade, <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/man-killed-moms-boyfriend-accidentally-recorded-murder-voicemail-85-years-7967443\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to People Magazine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Clay County Chief \u2063Deputy Prosecutor Zach Clapp <a href=\"https:\/\/fox59.com\/indiana-news\/clay-county-man-who-recorded-murder-on-voicemail-sentenced-to-85-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> prosecutors played the recording Wade accidentally left on his mother\u2019s phone for \u200dthe jury during his trial. The \u2062jury\u2063 ultimately found him guilty\u200d of the murder after a four-day trial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll\u200b murders are gruesome,\u201d said Clay County Prosecutor Emily Clarke, who prosecuted Wade. \u201cI think what made this case especially so was the fact \u2063that the defendant had inadvertently recorded himself throughout\u2063 the murder, \u200cso we were able to hear the entire\u200c thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Details of the\u2063 Crime<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Prosecutors \u2062said \u2063at trial that after Wade stabbed Haviland, he kicked and taunted him.<\/li>\n<li>Wade was found to be under the influence of \u2064methamphetamine at the time of the murder.
