Glenn Youngkin\u200b (R.) \u2062on \u200dFriday pardoned Scott Smith, a Loudoun\u2062 County dad who protested the school board&#8217;s handling \u200dof his daughter&#8217;s \u200bsexual assault in a school bathroom.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;This\u200b was a gross miscarriage of justice, and\u2063 I was so pleased\u200c to speak with [Smith] on Friday and be able to issue a full pardon for him,&#8221; Youngkin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/gov-glenn-youngkin-pardons-loudon-county-dad-protested-school-board-daughter-sexually-assaulted\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> Sunday on Fox News.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Smith faced charges of disorderly conduct at a \u200bLoudoun County School Board meeting in \u2063June 2021 after speaking out against Loudoun County Public\u2064 School district&#8217;s bathroom policy, which allows transgender-identifying males to use women&#8217;s restrooms. Smith&#8217;s case garnered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/dc-md-va\/2023\/09\/10\/loudoun-bathroom-sex-assault-youngkin-pardon-father\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">national attention<\/a> as parents across the country fight with school boards over radical transgender ideology in \u2063public schools.<\/p>\n<p>In May\u2064 2021, a reportedly &#8220;gender-fluid&#8221; male student wearing \u200ca skirt sexually assaulted Smith&#8217;s\u2064 daughter in a women&#8217;s restroom at Stone Bridge High\u2063 School. Following\u200c a &#8220;verbal \u200dconfrontation&#8221; with \u200banother \u2062community member at the board meeting, Smith was forcibly removed by police and &#8220;wrongfully prosecuted and convicted,&#8221; according to Youngkin&#8217;s\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.virginia.gov\/newsroom\/news-releases\/2023\/september\/name-1013859-en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pardon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We righted a wrong,&#8221; \u200cYoungkin said. &#8220;He should have never been prosecuted here. \u200cThis was a dad standing up for his daughter. And just to remind everyone, his daughter had been sexually assaulted in the \u200cbathroom of a\u200d school and no one\u2062 was doing anything about it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After Smith&#8217;s daughter was attacked, Loudoun County Public Schools \u200dquietly transferred the assailant to Broad Run\u200b High School, where he assaulted another female student five months later. A state investigation of LCPS&#8217;s handling of the two \u200battacks led to a <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/latest-news\/grand-jury-indicts-loudoun-county-school-officials-over-sex-assault-cases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">grand\u2064 jury indicting<\/a> former district superintendent Scott\u200b Ziegler \u2063and former public information officer \u200dWayde Byard for their mishandling of the cases. The district by that\u2064 time had already fired both Ziegler and Byard.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;A parent&#8217;s fundamental right to be involved in their child&#8217;s education, upbringing, and care should never be undermined by bureaucracy, school divisions, or the\u2063 state,&#8221; Youngkin\u2063 said in a statement announcing his pardon.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Mr. Smith did what any father would do, \u200cwhat any parent would do, [which is] stand up for their\u2063 child,&#8221; \u200cthe governor told Fox News.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Virginia Gov.
