Michelle Lujan Grisham on Friday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/new-mexico-governor-floats-arrest-conceal-carry-holders-power-hungry-emergency-order\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signed an executive order<\/a> temporarily banning guns from being carried \u2014 openly or concealed \u2014 in Bernalillo County, home to the state capital of Albuquerque, or in Albuquerque itself.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Today, I signed an executive order declaring gun violence a public health emergency. To my fellow citizens: get loud. Step up. Demand change: from your neighbors, from your friends, from your communities, from your elected leaders. Enough is enough. More coming from me tomorrow. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/jOt4fv4YDC\">pic.twitter.com\/jOt4fv4YDC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (@GovMLG) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovMLG\/status\/1699926449178763292?\">September 7, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And as surely as night follows day, as clockwork as the swallows returning to Capistrano, and as predictably as Americans who object fiercely to being pushed around by a government for no good reason, gun owners in Lujan Grisham\u2019s state responded by rallying in the capital on Sunday, defiantly bearing their firearms.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kob.com\/new-mexico\/gun-owners-rally-in-old-town-to-protest-public-health-order\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KOB-TV<\/a> in Albuquerque reported, more than 100 gun rights supporters turned out in the city\u2019s Old Town section to show their support for the Second Amendment is more powerful than any governor\u2019s pen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not here to cause any issues. We\u2019re just here to, you know, express our amendment rights and we\u2019ll go from there,\u201d one of the protesters, identified as Derek J, told the station.<\/p>\n<p>Given the historic tendency of Americans to defy tyranny \u2014 it\u2019s how the country was created, after all \u2014 the rally itself shouldn\u2019t be surprising, though it was heartening.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s even more heartening was the reaction of those charged with enforcing Lujan Grisham\u2019s order \u2014 a sign the governor doesn\u2019t have nearly the control she apparently thinks she does.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKOB 4 reached out to state police to see if any of the armed protesters were cited,\u201d the station reported. \u201cA rep got back to us saying to his knowledge, no citations were given out at the event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That also might not have been much of a surprise, given that the Bernalillo County district attorney, Albuquerque\u2019s mayor and the city\u2019s police chief <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/albuquerque-da-refusing-enforce-governors-suspension-2nd-amendment-rights-clearly-unconstitutional\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">have all publicly declared<\/a> they would not enforce the order.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs an officer of the court, I cannot and will not enforce something that is clearly unconstitutional,\u201d District Attorney Sam Bregman, a Democrat who was appointed by Lujan Grisham, said Saturday, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/albuquerque-guns-governor-concealed-carry-firearms-3fbe91683934057fe3036ccf187a7f1c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClearly unconstitutional\u201d aren\u2019t words commonly used by Democrats these days \u2014 the Biden administration and its partisans tend to treat the founding document <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-hatches-backdoor-student-loan-forgiveness-plan-bypass-scotus-ruling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">like a list of suggestions<\/a> rather than actual limits on the government\u2019s power \u2014 but the phrase is unavoidable in the context of Lujan Grisham\u2019s order.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-day ban on firearms \u2014 in effect a suspension of the Second Amendment \u2014 came after the shooting death Thursday of an 11-year-old boy outside the stadium of the city\u2019s minor league baseball team, the Albuquerque Isotopes, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/shooting-outside-albuquerque-baseball-stadium-100945519.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The measure is framed as a \u201cpublic health order,\u201d but not even liberals are buying that as leftists such as California Rep.
