Created in 2020 by Gov. \u200bGavin Newsom (D-CA), the panel conducted\u200c a \u200dtwo-year comprehensive study that detailed over 1,000 pages of findings. The study included various forms of discrimination and proposed cash payments as reparations, potentially amounting to millions for black residents.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It speaks to the miseducation of most Americans when it\u2064 comes to slavery and the impact that it had on this country and\u2062 the impact that it still has on African Americans today,&#8221; said state Sen. Steven \u2062Bradford, \u2062who served on the task \u200dforce.<\/p>\n<h3>Debates and Reasons for Opposition<\/h3>\n<p>Since the release of the report, debates have arisen regarding the \u2064payout method and the\u2063 source of the money. State Sen. Bradford has\u2062 proposed diverting 0.5%\u2063 of the state&#8217;s annual budget to a $1.5 billion annuity, which would\u200c support reparation\u200b programs and gradually pay out descendants of slavery over time.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/majority-of-california-voters-dont-support-cash-for-slavery-reparations-poll\/\" title=\"Most Californian voters oppose cash reparations for slavery: Poll.\">recent survey asked\u2062 voters<\/a> \u200din California to explain their reasons for rejecting cash reparations. \u2063The top two reasons selected \u2063were &#8220;it&#8217;s unfair to ask today&#8217;s taxpayers to\u200d pay \u2064for wrongs committed in\u200b the past&#8221;\u200d (chosen by 60% of respondents) \u2064and\u200c &#8220;it&#8217;s not fair to single out one group for reparations when other racial and religious groups have been wronged in the past&#8221; (chosen by 53% of respondents).<\/p>\n<p>Despite\u200b the task force&#8217;s recommendation, it seems that the majority of California voters are opposed to cash reparations\u2063 for \u2064descendants of slaves.
