financial cost of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-accuse-biden-of-playing-political-game-over-border-crisis\/\" title=\"House Republicans Accuse Biden of Playing \u2018Political Game\u2019 Over Border Crisis\">illegal immigration crisis<\/a>\u200c that continues \u200cto grip the \u200bBig Apple.<\/p>\n<p>Jacques \u200dJiha, \u200dbudget director of the \u200dNew \u2062York City Mayor&#8217;s Office\u200c of Management and Budget, on \u200dSept. 9 dispatched a memo to the city&#8217;s four uniformed agencies\u2014police, \u2064fire, sanitation, and corrections\u2014asking them for plans to cut their \u2064overtime costs.<\/p>\n<p>He said that New York City Mayor \u2063Eric Adams\u2014who recently warned \u2064that the influx of illegal immigrants would &#8220;destroy&#8221; Mr. \u2062Jiha said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Jiha said that the city has spent $1.45 billion in\u200c the 2023 fiscal year alone on food, shelter, \u200cand services, adding that the city projects spending of upwards of $12 billion\u200c over the next three fiscal years.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the \u200bamount of federal aid has been &#8220;grossly inadequate&#8221; (Spencer Platt\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Patrick Hendry, who heads New \u2063York City&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/black-lives-matters-most-prominent-chapter-launches-drive-targeting-police-unions\/\" title=\"Black Lives Matter\u2019s Most Prominent Chapter Launches Drive Targeting Police Unions\">biggest police union<\/a>, \u200dobjected to the city&#8217;s plans to cut NYPD\u2062 overtime to help \u2062pay for the illegal immigration crisis.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\u201cIt is going to be impossible for the NYPD to significantly reduce overtime unless it\u2064 fixes its \u200dstaffing \u200bcrisis,\u201d Mr.\u200c Hendry said in <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/09\/10\/nypd-overtime-to-be-cut-to-help-pay-for-migrant-crisis-even-as-crime-remains-higher-than-before-covid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">remarks to the\u200d New York Post<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\u201cIf City Hall wants to save \u2062money without\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/florida-files-scotus-brief-in-case-over-biden-refusal-to-deport-violent-criminal-illegal-aliens\/\" title=\"Florida Files SCOTUS Brief in Case Over Biden Refusal to Deport Violent Criminal Illegal Aliens\">jeopardizing public safety<\/a>, it needs to invest in\u2062 keeping \u200bexperienced cops on the job,\u201d he \u2064continued, \u200cadding that the NYPD is still thousands of \u200cpolice officers short\u2064 and is struggling to\u2062 get crime back down to pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels amid the staffing shortage.<\/div>\n<h2>Slashing\u200c Costs<\/h2>\n<p>Besides overtime hours being slashed, New York\u2064 City is \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/nyc-mayor-announces-potential-budget-cuts-amid-immigration-crisis-5489162\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">also implementing<\/a> a 5 percent across-the-board budget cut, dubbed Programs\u200d to Eliminate the Gap \u2064(PEGs), which\u2062 will affect all city agencies.<\/p>\n<p>The city also\u2064 adopting a full hiring \u2062freeze, with exceptions for critical positions that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-judge-grants-injunction-against-bidens-waters-of-the-united-states-rule-in-texas-idaho\/\" title=\"Texas Judge Grants Injunction Against Biden\u2019s \u2018Waters of the United States\u2019 Rule in Texas, Idaho\">support public health<\/a>, public \u200bsafety, and revenue generation, Mr. Jiha wrote. But even when it comes to these \u200bcritical\u200c positions, agencies will only \u200dbe able to hire on a \u2064one-for-one basis, meaning one hire\u2062 for one individual\u200b who has left the job.<\/p>\n<p>A \u2062spending freeze on other-than-personnel services (OTPS) will \u200calso be implemented, which will include most out-of-town travel, all use of temporary service contracts, \u200dand all consultant contracts.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">&#8220;I know that \u200cthe combination of sustained PEGs, \u200dfreezes on hiring, OTPS spending and new needs will\u200d create formidable challenges for\u200d all of you in running your agencies, but there \u2062are simply no better and easier choices,&#8221; Mr. Jiha\u200b said.<\/div>\n<h2>Mayor Announces Budget Cuts<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Jiha&#8217;s cost-cutting request on Saturday \u2064follows a call by Mr. \u200cAdams for the city&#8217;s agencies to submit plans to cut \u2064their city-funded spending by 5 percent over the next three budgeting periods.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Adams on Sept. 9 cited &#8220;the convergence\u2063 of circumstances threatening New York City\u2019s financial stability&#8221; for the steps his administration \u2062is taking\u2062 to balance the\u200d city&#8217;s budget, as required\u2062 by law.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Because the\u2064 city has been forced \u200cto bear most costs\u2063 of\u200c the asylum-seeker humanitarian \u200ccrisis at a time when revenue\u200b growth is slowing\u200d and COVID-19 stimulus funding is sunsetting, the\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nypd-overtime-cut-despite-crime-spike-amid-staggering-cost-of-illegal-immigration-crisis\/\" title=\"NYPD reduces overtime despite crime surge amidst high cost of illegal immigration crisis.\">city faces substantial fiscal disruption<\/a> if circumstances\u200c do not change,&#8221; his office stated.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, his \u2063administration is &#8220;asking all of our agencies to\u2064 submit a \u200dplan to reduce their city-funded \u2063spending \u200cin each\u2064 year of our financial plan b<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New York City&#8217;s police officers will face reduced overtime hours due to the financial strain caused by the ongoing illegal immigration crisis.
