The Senate can still confirm nominees\u2062 through its normal procedural rules, \u2062but\u2063 this makes for a slower\u200c process. There are currently more than 300 \u200dmilitary officers awaiting\u2062 a \u200cSenate decision \u200bon their promotions, including three leaders\u2064 of\u2063 the Joint Chiefs\u200c of Staff and in other command positions.<\/p>\n<p>Current federal laws codified under\u2063 the Hyde Amendment prohibit federal funds from \u200cgoing toward abortions, except in cases where a pregnancy threatens the \u2062life of\u200d the mother or a pregnancy comes about as a result of\u200c rape\u2063 or incest. \u2062The DOD contends that its policy of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rep-mccaul-sen-tuberville-paralyzing-military-with-abortion-policy-standoff\/\" title=\"Rep. McCaul criticizes Sen. Tuberville for causing military paralysis with abortion policy standoff.\">supporting abortion-related travel<\/a> is distinct enough to skirt the Hyde Amendment rules,\u2063 but Mr. Tuberville disagrees and has vowed to maintain his hold until \u200beither the DOD\u2063 retracts the policy or Congress acts to change the laws.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think that is a national \u200dsecurity\u200c problem and\u2064 a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/not-making-headlines-more-information-on-chinas-involvement-in-the-2020-election-steal\/\" title=\"NOT MAKING HEADLINES: More Information on China\u2019s Involvement In the 2020 Election Steal\">national security issue<\/a>,&#8221; \u200cMr. McCaul\u2063 continued. &#8220;I really wish he would reconsider this.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">While criticizing the Alabama senator&#8217;s hold\u2062 on military nominations, Mr. McCaul endorsed efforts in the Republican-controlled House to pass a provision in the\u200b 2024 National Defense Authorization Act \u200d(NDAA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/house-backs-culture-war-amendments-to-defense-bill-ensuring-showdown-at-final-vote-5398345\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">that\u200c repeals the \u2064DOD&#8217;s abortion policy.<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">The provision to reverse the \u200bDOD&#8217;s abortion policy would still need the approval of the Democrat-controlled Senate, which is unlikely to\u200d support repealing \u200cthe abortion\u200d policy. Still, Mr. McCaul expressed confidence that the divided houses of Congress will \u2062&#8221;work\u2064 out\u200c this abortion \u200cissue.&#8221;<\/div>\n<h2>Tuberville Deflects Criticism<\/h2>\n<p>While Mr. McCaul criticized Mr. Tuberville&#8217;s Senate hold,\u2063 the Alabama senator&#8217;s office reiterated \u2062that he alone could not prevent military nominations and noted that Senate Majority Leader Chuck\u2063 Schumer (D-N.Y.) has thus\u2062 far refused to schedule votes \u2064for individual military nominees.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No one can\u200b stop Chuck \u200dSchumer from holding votes on these nominations. He just \u2064doesn\u2019t want to,\u201d Steven Stafford, a spokesperson for\u2063 Mr. \u200cTuberville, told CNN.<\/p>\n<p>Other Republican senators have also put the\u2063 onus on the Senate \u2063majority to handle the \u200cprocess \u2063for approving\u200d military promotions and nominations.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\u201cI think the \u2062majority\u200d leader should take the chairman\u200b of the Joint Chiefs of Staff nomination \u200cto the floor as we do our top Cabinet officials,\u201d Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/republicans-try-blame-schumer-tubervilles-military-blockade-rcna103678\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> NBC News last week.<\/div>\n<p>Sen.
