In a Sept. 10 NPR <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/09\/10\/1187224861\/electric-vehicles-evs-cars-chargers-charging-energy-secretary-jennifer-granholm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>, journalist Camila Domonoske recounted her experience of the journey. In between the trips, the entourage had to \u201cgrapple with the limitations\u201d of EVs.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>When Ms. Granholm\u2019s \u200dcaravan of EVs decided to fast-charge in Grovetown, Georgia, the\u2064 group realized that there weren\u2019t enough chargers for each vehicle. Following the incident, department staff took measures like sending their vehicles to slower chargers until both the Secretary and the family had enough room \u2064to charge their\u200d EVs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Last\u2063 year, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/i-rented-an-electric-car-for-a-four-day-road-trip-i-spent-more-time-charging-it-than-i-did-sleeping-11654268401\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> article by reporter Rachel \u200dWolfe also described a four<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tesla-owner-sleeps-in-ev-almost-every-night-on-19-day-road-trip\/\" title=\"Tesla owner sleeps in their electric vehicle almost every night during a 19-day road trip.\">-day road trip<\/a> across \u200cthe United States riding an EV as a \u200dnegative experience. The article was titled \u201cI Rented an Electric Car for a Four-Day\u200d Road \u2063Trip. I Spent More Time Charging It Than I Did Sleeping.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>EV Charging<\/h2>\n<p>Charging is a major\u200c issue for EV owners. In \u200ca February <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Business\/broken-machines-long-waits-reality-charging-electric-vehicle\/story?id=97389275\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a> with\u200d ABC, Tony Quiroga, editor-in-chief of the magazine \u201cCar and Driver,\u201d said that he \u2062has been forced to wander the aisles \u2062of a Walmart while waiting for an EV he was testing to charge.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cLonger trips \u2064bring up flaws with EVs. Brown\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Speaking \u200cto the outlet, \u2063YouTube personality\u200d Steve Hammes said that he \u2064feels \u201cnervous\u201d \u2064about \u200ballowing his 17-year-old daughter Maddie\u200b to use EVs due to the long charging times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re \u2062going through the \u200cplanning process\u2064 of how easily Maddie can get from\u200d Albany to Gettysburg [College] and where she can charge the\u2064 car,\u201d he said. \u201cIt makes me a\u200b little\u200b nervous. We want fast \u2062chargers that take \u206430 to \u200d40 minutes \u2026 it would not make sense to sit at a Level 2 charger for \u2063hours.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>An \u200dAug. 18 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jdpower.com\/cars\/shopping-guides\/owner-satisfaction-with-ev-charging-on-the-decline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">survey<\/a> by J.D. Power found that owner satisfaction with EV charging was \u201con the decline.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cPublic charging can be difficult, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/family-calls-police-on-energy-secretarys-ev-entourage-blocking-charging-station\/\" title=\"Family reports Energy Secretary\u2019s EV entourage blocking charging station to police.\">crowded charger locations extend wait times<\/a>, and frequent downtime can make it hard to find a\u2062 working location \u200bto begin with,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>The survey found\u2062 that EV owner\u200d satisfaction with Level 2 charging times fell to 455 points (out of \u200ba possible 1,000) while satisfaction with DC \u200cfast\u200c chargers fell 30 points to\u2063 588. The declines are in addition to the \u2063general dissatisfaction with public EV charging, which has already hit\u200d its lowest-ever level since the survey began in 2021.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>\u201cThe\u2064 declining satisfaction scores\u200c for public charging should be\u200c concerning \u2063to automakers and,\u2062 more broadly, to public charging stakeholders,\u201d said Brent Gruber, executive director of the EV practice at J.D. Power<\/p>\n<h2>State-Wise Adoption Divide<\/h2>\n<p>While \u200bthe Biden administration is strongly pushing ahead \u2063with the EV transition, issues like charging are posing a challenge for such plans. Other major problems with EVs are their driving \u200dranges and \u2063high cost.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>A June <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/tech\/ev-range-dips-nearly-25-percent-while-carrying-load-aaa-5335725\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a> by \u2064the \u2063American Automobile Association (AAA) found that EV range can \u2063fall by up to a quarter when the vehicle \u200cis carrying heavy loads. \u201cRange anxiety remains a top reason consumers are hesitant \u2062to switch from gasoline-powered vehicles to EVs,\u201d \u200cAdrienne Woodland, spokesperson\u200c for AAA,\u2063 said at \u2062the time.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>According to\u200c Autolist\u2019s 2023 EV <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autolist.com\/news-and-analysis\/2023-survey-electric-vehicles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Survey<\/a>, \u200dpeople\u2064 who resist switching to \u2064EVs\u200b as their vehicle were found to have become \u201cmore entrenched in \u2064their views.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While 42 percent\u2062 of \u2062survey respondents cited the high cost of EVs as a major concern, \u200b39 percent were worried about the\u200d range of the vehicle on a single charge, and 33 percent were concerned about where to charge the EVs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>An August <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jdpower.com\/business\/resources\/america-grows-increasingly-divided-ev-adoption\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a> by J.D.
