But\u2064 the most\u200d memorable moment, in my opinion, was when Gauff, after winning the final match, dropped to her knees and began to pray.<\/p>\n<p>The 19-year-old had been a \u2064Grand Slam finalist before,\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/40-percent-of-house-republicans-who-voted-to-impeach-trump-to-exit-congress-fred-upton-the-latest\/\" title=\"40 Percent of House Republicans Who Voted to Impeach Trump to Exit Congress, Fred Upton the Latest\">losing badly<\/a> to the number one \u2062player at the 2022 French Open. \u200cAfter a first-round loss \u200cat Wimbledon this year, Coco supplemented her team, which was\u200d comprised of\u2063 primarily her parents, Candi and Corey. Veteran\u2064 coaches Pere Riba and Brad Gilbert,\u200d who coached former \u200bchampions Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick, joined\u200d the Gauff camp.<\/p>\n<p>Since that time\u2064 her confidence has blossomed. Before this year\u2019s U.S. Open, Gauff won two prestigious lead-up events this summer, the Mubadala Citi Open in \u200cWashington D.C.,\u200b and the Western and Southern Open in Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2064 new coaching staff and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/julia-documents-the-life-of-the-beloved-french-chef-who-changed-the-way-americans-cook\/\" title=\"\u2018Julia\u2019 Documents The Life Of The Beloved French Chef Who Changed The Way Americans Cook\">hard work paid<\/a> off in Saturday\u2019s final, with her three-set win over the formidable Belarusian \u2062champion Aryna Sabalenka, who tried\u200b unsuccessfully to hit Gauff off the\u200d court. \u200bCoco\u2019s emotional reaction, \u200ccomplete with tears from both she and her parents (it \u200bwas, she said, the first\u2062 time she saw her father cry), were wonderful to watch. But the icing on the cake was when Gauff dropped to her knees and began to pray.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a beautiful act of gratitude,\u201d \u2062my tennis-playing bestie, who is\u2064 also a\u200b Christian, explained. \u201cNot just praying for something good to happen, but giving thanks it did!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In this day and age, it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tennis-star-coco-gauff-drops-to-her-knees-in-prayer-after-winning-u-s-open-title\/\" title=\"Coco Gauff prays on her knees after winning U.S. Open.\">takes great courage<\/a> and humility to thank God on live \u200bTV.<\/p>\n<p>Sports commentators on the left \u200d\u2014 -and there are many \u2014 claimed not to see what was happening. ESPN\u2019s \u201cSportsCenter\u201d reported that Gauff \u201ctook a moment to soak it\u2064 all in after winning her first Grand Slam title.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure>\n    <!-- Image goes here --><br \/>\n  <\/figure>\n<p>Thankfully, Super\u2062 Bowl champion head\u200d coach\u200c and NBC commentator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/person\/d\/tony-dungy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tony Dungy<\/a> \u2063set the record straight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hate to break this \u200bto you SportsCenter but Coco Gauff was not \u2018soaking \u200cit all in\u2019 at this moment. She was praying. She has been very open about her Christian faith in the past. It seems pretty obvious what she is doing here,\u201d Dungy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/sports\/super-bowl-champion-coach-corrects-sportscenter-coco-gauff-clip-she-was-praying\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As tennis and tennis coverage gets increasingly \u2063woke, watching the sport without the lens of political correctness \u2062is extremely challenging. As\u2064 a conservative <em>and<\/em> a fan, I enjoy the game by watching responsibly. This means skipping the preshow, opening ceremonies, and most\u2064 interviews. Yet \u2062on Tennis Channel and ESPN, \u2062match commentators like Pam Shriver and Chris Evert shade their\u200d commentary\u200d with PC chatter, speaking on\u200d Saturday of Coco\u2019s \u201csocial awareness\u201d in addition to talking about her tennis game. But\u2062 after she knelt down to pray, giving\u2062 thanks to God for providing her the strength to persevere, they couldn\u2019t think of anything more to add.<\/p>\n<p>One thing is certain.\u2063 Regardless of how hard the left tries, they \u2064cannot tamp the good stuff \u2063down. Of all the ceremonies, special guests and tightly crafted messages\u200b (\u201c50 years of equal pay!\u201d was printed on each court), the most inspiring moment of this year\u2019s U.S. Open, was when an extraordinary young lady before millions\u2063 of people, dropped to her \u2062knees and prayed, giving thanks for a hard-fought, well won victory.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h3>Beth Herman is an artist, essayist, and school\u2063 docent at\u2063 The National Gallery of Art.
