The U.S. Navy decommissioned the ships\u2064 on March 28 and transferred them to the Philippines under the Excess Defense Article program.<\/p>\n<p>These ships will be integrated \u200cinto the Philippine Navy&#8217;s Alvarez-class patrol ships, which are essential\u2064 in maintaining a safe and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/philippines-commissions-us-ships-amid-chinas-illegal-activities-in-south-china-sea\/\" title=\"Philippines commissions US ships due to China's 'illegal activities' in South China Sea.\">secure maritime environment\u200d surrounding<\/a> the \u200ccountry.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>The \u2064Philippines has taken steps to counter illegal entry\u200b by\u200c Chinese vessels into its territorial\u2062 waters,\u200c including joint patrols with the United \u200cStates and Australia. Recently, there was a tense \u2062encounter \u200cbetween Philippine \u2063and Chinese ships \u200dwhen\u200b eight Chinese ships allegedly tried to block two Philippine Coast\u2064 Guard (PCG) ships in Ayungin\u200d Shoal.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>The PCG reported that\u2064 the Chinese ships engaged in \u200cdangerous maneuvers while the PCG\u2062 ships \u200bwere on\u2064 a resupply \u2062mission. (Philippine Coast Guard via AP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Philippine President Ferdinand\u2064 Marcos Jr. expressed concern about China&#8217;s\u2063 &#8220;illegal, \u2063unreported, \u2062and unregulated fishing&#8221; and the militarization of reclaimed features in the South China Sea.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Mr. Marcos has previously stated that the Philippines will \u200dpersistently pursue dialogue and diplomatic approaches while ensuring the protection of its territory.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Beijing claims much of\u200d the South China Sea as its own territory, disregarding the \u2064ruling\u200d of the Hague \u200dTribunal\u200c in favor of the \u200dPhilippines in 2016.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Brunei have also \u200cclashed with\u2063 China \u2062over its claims in the South China \u200bSea.
