They commended Goldfarb for his \u200binstrumental role in establishing\u200b the <em>Free Beacon<\/em> in 2012, as well as the \u2063outlet&#8217;s comprehensive\u200c coverage of issues affecting Israel\u200d and the Jewish community.<\/p>\n<h3>The Ben Hecht Award: \u2063A Tribute to a Hero<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The award is named after Ben Hecht, a prominent\u200d 20th-century Chicago newsman and screenwriter. Hecht tirelessly worked to raise awareness about\u2063 the Holocaust in the United States during the early 1940s. His unwavering advocacy for a Jewish \u200cstate made \u2064him \u200da hero among the Zionist resistance in British Mandatory Palestine, but also drew the attention of the \u200dBritish government.<\/p>\n<h3>Defending Security, Prosperity, and Freedom<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Addressing the ZOA \u2062gala dinner, Goldfarb emphasized that the <em>Free Beacon<\/em> \u200d is dedicated to defending &#8220;security,\u200c prosperity, and freedom for the Jewish people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">He remarked, &#8220;The stories we cover at the <em>Free Beacon<\/em>, and the way we cover them, have not won us any favors with the Pulitzer committee or the White House Correspondents&#8217; Association. However, when recognition is bestowed upon us, it truly holds significant value.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Goldfarb added, &#8220;We do not turn the other cheek. We do not trim our sails. We do not appease. We do not\u200c shy away from challenges or confrontation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Israel&#8217;s \u2062Importance \u2062to America<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Goldfarb highlighted that \u2063American supporters of Israel recognize that threats against\u200b the Jewish people are also threats against the country itself\u2014threats to liberalism, threats\u200c to\u200c democracy, threats to freedom. He emphasized, &#8220;We understand that there are forces in this world that seek \u2063our\u200c annihilation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">He further stated, &#8220;No issue reveals more about\u200c a candidate than their view of the bond between Israel and the United States.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;In American politics, we can afford to be wrong about many things. Marginal tax rates. Deficit targets. How much to allocate to different programs,&#8221; Goldfarb explained. &#8220;However, we cannot afford to be wrong about Israel\u2014a country established as a refuge from evil.
